Howdy pards,

I normally shoot in the Working Cowboy class which isn't suppose to use a gun cart.  I use mine mostly for sittin' on when waiting 'cause I got this bad back.

Could I use some kind of easily movable chair to carry with me instead of the gun cart/stool?  And if so, any of you have a source for an appropriate one?

thanks,
One-eyed Jack

That's what I do. If you see the pictures from this years National, that's me sitting in the wood chair. We had that chair already though. Tj

Hi, if you go to REI or some such, they sell a three or four  legged camp stool ... it is usually covered in nylon, but eventually a layer of canvas (or better yet, worked leather), would complete the look and put it in the proper age ....

If you have an Ikea near they have a wooden folding chair for under $20.00 and a really good one for under $30.00.  You can also buy them on line if you can figure out their website.

Hi,

Thanks for reminding me ... I actually have one in my car trunk that I bought at a yard sale ... always meant to cover it and put it on my unfinished gun cart when it is done ... but this is my second day volunteering at the Luis Palau event here in Sackatomatoes ...and the one thing I remember from yesterday (besides the stunning heat) was the lack of seats .... so now I have something i can bring on my bike and use through the concert ... besides ear plugs  *S*

Jack,

These chairs are quite a bit more monetarily and weigh a bit more than the ones in the other links (although not heavy by any means) but make up for that in complete authenticity, and as a bonus they can be used in camp whereas the others would strictly be on the firing line.

I have two of these same type (with arms) but mine are from Fall Creek Sutlery, last I heard they were not being made at the moment, but these will be as nice or nicer than the ones I own....NJ Sekela is one of the premier Civil War Sutlers and every one of his items are checked and re-checked for their authenticity before he has a reproduction of it made. Pricey....sure, but you get what you pay for and with his goods its nothing but the finest!

One-eyed Jack,
here's the link to the thread that covered the same info two years ago. There are some good suggestions.

Don't over think this.  A folding (X-frame) canvas seat stool is authentic forever and are easy to carry and inexpensive.  (Like the one RCJ posted a link for.)

Bill,
I have a folding wood x-frame with canvas seat you may have.  Remind me when you come to the shop for your new toys.

If you are using the stool in NCOWS, buy something that is period correct.  The Nylon/Aluminum stools are practical, but don't fit our era.

Panther Primitives makes lots of nice period camp equipment that is reasonable and very well made.

A few examples pf stools can be seen here:  http://www.ushist.com/19th-century_set-dressing_f.shtml

Many suttlers carry Panther Primitive gear.  That little $19.20 camp stool is very nice, portable, and comfortable.

I have been using white canvas directors chairs.  They go back to the Civil War.  Pier One and World Market have them.  Pier One has the best quality of the 2.
