So...., I got this 40' hedge of raspberries.  Looking 'em over day before yesterday.  Told the missus we got 3 to 3 1/2 quarts ready.  I left for work at 4:15am.  At 10:00am the missus left to go to the scrap yard to sell what I have scavenged,  Hey, gotta make a living somehow,  She gets back around 11:30.  Goes out to pick berries at 11:45.  The entire hedge had been picked clean of any color.

So today, I post no trespassing signs along with this.

WARNING:  Experimental pesticides in use.  Consumption of fruits and/or vegetables may cause serious illness and/or death.  Symptoms may take months to manifest themselves.  Have your doctor contact Monsanto and the CDC.

Ifn I catch 'em, I'll "kneecap" 'em.

That's just cold. I used to have a yard full of plum trees. (the guy that owned the property before me was an experimental horticulturast.(sp) the old lady next door used to hop the fence and get herself a bag full on a pretty regular basis. I often wished I could have seen that site, she was a chubby little ol lady..and once she left a bit of her house dress on the top of the chain link...

Sorry you got picked clean; it has to be a frustration.  Be glad you don't have the sort of berry thieves we had up in the Sierras.  We had about a half acre thicket of mixed variety seed berries, and more than a couple of times, I'd be thinking of going down and getting a bucket full and spot one of those big brown hairy varmints down there chowin' down.  I'm hairy, and brown, and big, and I might have weight by a hair or so on a small bear, but they have those claws, and teeths.  I never messed with them, and when I did go down to the thicket, I kept a sharp eye peeled.

Used to when I was on patrol I'd see people up in front yards picking up Pecans. I did stop and ask them if they had permission which they'd always claim to have. Of course they wouldn't know who owned the house so I'd make'm dump the nuts and leave. They curse me as they'd leave but they would leave.
Yes, I do have more facial hair now.

TallBaldBellied - I'm sorry to hear about your loss. A theft of any kind is a double loss. You loose what was stolen and you loose a little bit of your securty, the feeling that your posessions are safe. I guess that's why theft is a crime and we have laws against that sort of thing and we have assigned punuishments to these transgressions, but I don'r remember kneecapping as being listed as an appropriate punishment for petty theft. It is very much like the Muslim law that mandates that a thief have his right hand cut off as punishment for theft. Maybe we are not so far from Sharia Law as we thought.
I will no longer respond to the rants of the small minded that want to sling mud rather than discuss in an adult manner.

Rick, I agree that a home invasion, a felony, demands more direct and drastic action than having my garden raided a misdemeanor. I do keep a loaded gun, in fact, two loaded guns handy in my house in the event of a home invasion. There is the rare break-in in Cibolo, a community a few miles from us, but none in recent memory here in Schertz. But if there is one and it's my house, I am prepared and will defend it with deadly force if necessary. The point that I was trying to make with respect to the original post was that stealing berries from somebody's garden is a misdemeanor and shouldn't incur the penalty of permanent a crippling injury (kneecapping). Why would someone want to permanently cripple a person for such a minor crime? Is it because it was them that got robbed? Is it personal? What is so special about that victim that the punishment should be so severe? Is this person looking for justice or vengeance? Vengeance isn't allowed in our legal system. That's what separates it from Sharia Law.

I'm sure that it wasn't a serious threat too, but How do others see it? Are there anti gunners and people opposed to the
"Stand Your Ground Laws" that might take this seriously and use it as propoganda against those issues? What's going to be your defense if they do? Awwww... I was just joshin' ya!???

Hi,

I posted this on another thread so if you have already read this please bear with me ...

My Ex had this neighbor that was an ex-bronc rider ... about 5'4" and 150 Lbs. soaking wet ... and a lifetime of smoking Camels had had its affect ... his personal accessory was an oxygen tank and a cannula ...

Now imagine this poor man waking up to two local kids trying to break into his rear sliding glass door. Now imagine this old bronc rider, who by his own admission had broken every bone in his body at least once, working his way to the two sliding glass panels (from inside the house), dragging his oxygen tank in one hand and his old pump shotgun in the other.

Imagine him racking a round in the chamber on a perfectly still night. Now imagine him giving the kids a half minute to vacate the area before he put a load of buckshot through both windows.

He said he was never bothered again .... and i believed him ...*S*

TTFN,

My moniker is my great grandfather's name. He served with the 2nd Florida Mounted Regiment in the Civil War. Afterward, he came home, packed his wife into a wagon, and was one of the first NorteAmericanos on the Frio River southwest of San Antonio ..... Kinda where present day Dilley is ...
