Graf and Sons just sent out an advert email blast featuring Nagant Pistols for $99.99 and ammo $3.99 per 14 ctg box.

Good, bad or about right deal.  Nagants are kinda intrinsically cool, I have no experience with them or clue as to value or lack there of.

I don't have one(yet), but probably should get one soon-while the importers still have plenty of stock. If they're anything like other milsurps they will start going up once they get all of them out of Russia.

I have heard that many have somewhat dark bores, and also, some of the importrs now are stamping them with huge "billboard" importer marks, sometimes right over the manufacturers marks. in some pics I have seen, it was crudely marked with just a center punch and hammer, kind of a "connect the dots" thing >:(

Take a look through an issue of shotgun news and they have them in there about same price with details.  Like is said above, probably dark bores, not the best shape.  Get one that is "hand picked" and add about $100 to price, but get a shiny bore, and shootable pistol in very good condition.  If you have a C&R you can get one shipped to your house.

Just picked one up at the local pawn shop, like new/arsenal reconditioned, one C-note. Tula arsenal, 1930. Took it out on the range, made nice little holes in the black of the target.  Very, ah, "polite" round, nice in single action, awful double action, miserable ejection system.

Make it a .38, get rid of the silly gas seal system, install a Colt SAA ejector, you'ld have a decent sidearm.  But then it would'nt be a Nagant!  Quite a lot of fun really, for not a whole lot.

Drydock, I recently read something online about improving the DA pull on these, a non permanent modification that consisted of putting a small nut under the main spring, I think it was in Surplusrifleforum.

Where's your local pawnshop? Only one where I live has one, with all the accessories...........for $175. But that's the same shop that has had a 1909 Colt for at least 2 years, for $1600. 'Course, I guess I could just get on the bike and road trip to Graf's, need some powder anyway....

I've got 4 pawn shops just up the road in Jefferson City, every once'n awhile I make the rounds.  I've picked up a couple of Colt DAs, a Moisin, a Krag, and this Nagant, all great deals.  Small city like Jeff, they like to move product I think.

THis one, they had $125 on it, I offered 90, we settled on $100.  These pawn shops like to dicker as well.

Oh, this particular Shop was Capitol Pawn, Eastland drive, Jefferson City.  Had a nice Rock Island 1911, A Mosin (Round Reciver unfortunatly) 2 Ishapore SMLEs, both in .308, one in Jungle Carbine configuration, and 2 Swiss Straight Pulls.  Good prices on all, I thought.

I picked up a Nagant from a local gun shop about a year ago.  It was made in 1938 and is a nice looking gun with a good bore.

are the Nagant pistols FFL or under C&R?  I am thinking my 91/30 needs a companion

Yes, C&R will cover Nagant.  If you have C&R you should look it up in your book.   8)

I shot Drydock's Nagant today, single action pull isn't too bad. DA pull, well....it's not too hard to "stage" the trigger, since the first stage is about 20lb pull or so, but just before firing it goes up to about 268 1/2 lb. First attemt at DA for me, I actually couldn't pull the trigger hard enough to get it to go off! Hopefully, the tricks showed in the link I posted will help.

One thing, it should be considered a very safe pistol, since an Accidental Discharge of an UN cocked nagant would be highly unlikely! Not likely to go off because the trigger gets caught on a twig!

Other than that, seems like a very nice little pistol, grip felt good in my hand, most of my SA shots were in a 2-3 inch group at about 7 yards.

Drydock

Hey Pony, I was in Grafs the other day, and picked up one of those Nagants they had.   If you had a C&R you could get it for $99, for regular folks it was $139.  Now figger, the price I usualy see online is $99, add on $10 hand pick for good bore, $10 shipping, a $20 transfer fee, yep, there you are.

They had boxs of the things, quite a few.  They let me go thru several, picked out the one with the best bore.  Be warned, you end up swimming in Cosmoline.  Fortunatly I enjoy that sort of thing. Ended up with a 1935 Tula.  Came with a brown wartime holster (not the later olive one) cleaning rod and screwdriver.

BTW, tried that trick with the bullet under the spring.  Works great!  DA pull went from atrocious to merely awful, the SA from awful to barely toleralble.  Great fun!

I'd have to say, a Nagant seems a good deal for a GAF ready sidearm that will go with just about any european rifle you can think of.  Outside of Germany and Britain, seems like everyone either had a Nagant, or something that looked just like one!

So they have lower price for C&R, even if you pick up in person?

Drydock

I'm not really sure, It was marked $139, I asked about the $99 email price, they asked if I had a C&R.  I said no, they said sorry, its $139.  Maybe its $99 if they ship it to you.   ???

Hi

I read on a review of MidwayUSA's 7.62mm Nagant ammunition, that you can substitute 32 S&W Long for the 7.62mm Nagant.  Has anybody tried that?  I looked at buying one of these guys at a gun show about 2 years ago and the 7.62mm Nagant ammo was $60 for a box of 50 rounds.  The stuff doesn't look like you could reload it.

The price of the ammunition has come dowm considerably, I think I saw some advertised for about $22 a box. It's reloadable, but a bit more involved than the "normal" calbers. If you shoot .32 S&W in it, those cases probably won't be reloadable either, probably to much buge and split cases. You can make usable ammo from resized 32-20 cases, though.
