That's a cool saddle, Dalton. Hopefully someone here can ID the maker for you.

I hope so too. I really want to get it and fix it up. It wont take much other than some leather mending underneath, and a refleecing. I think it would be a good one to learn on, but dont want to attempt and fail on a big name saddle.

I can't be sure but it looks like it might be a Hamley and co. saddle. I've owned and restored more than one over the years. You tend to find them in the Noth west. Hamley was involved with the Pendleton round up. Good saddles

Dalton Masterson

I will check that out. Thanks Don!

Nice link too, GCR.

This is Hamley's maker's mark - it's not this one on your saddle, though they may have had another maker's mark.
There's an interesting photo of their frontage on page 141 of Cowboys and their Trappings.

Dalton Masterson

Ok folks.
I bought the saddle today for a song. I have had it sitting in the backyard this afternoon, and keep looking at the stamp. I do believe it says OMAHA at the bottom of it.

So, I am thinking it might be a Collins & Co maybe..

Can someone post some pics of a similar Collins & Co. stamp? Also, at the bottom of the stirrup leathers, there is a sewn portion right at the roll at the very bottom. It does not appear to have a purpose, unless it was fleeced on the backside right there or something. Its just a patch on both leathers about 4" tall or so.
I will take a pic tomorrow and show this. I wonder if it can help ID it.
Thanks.

Take a piece of paper put it over the mark and scratch with a pencil like they do at the wall, see if that helps.

Congratulations, Dalton. That's a very good-looking saddle.

Congratulations. Good buy. Is that a bow fork? Those who know more can advise.

Collins' early mark was a shield which can be seen on page 108 of PI

I did a bit of Photo Shopping and came up with what appears to be J H??? & CO on the top arch, MAKER, in the middle, and on the bottom arch ?????? no5

If you could at all get a better/larger/higher quality pic (without flash/glare) to me I could probably/maybe get more using PS...also try Ricks suggestion of doing a rubbing

Initial rubbings did not work. I will try again today and take a new set of photos.
Thanks!

How about JH Haney Omaha.  Found a bit about a watch fob but that's it. Anyone have a makers mark pic?

Later Edit:
After looking closely. I think it is probably a JH Haney and Co saddle from Omaha. I still need to find another item with the mark on it to be sure though.
