Just starting to reload and was wondering on average, how often can a .38 spl brass case be reloaded?  I understand that brass will last longer than nickle plated, am I right on this?

I reload until they split.  I have no idea how many times that is.  I probably have some cases with over 15 runs on them.  And you're right the brass ones last longer than nickle.

I used to reload .38 spl by the hundreds on my Dillon 450 press.
Inspect your brass and keep it clean as well as your dies.
I prefer Federal brass.

I've been loading Starline brass and get a good deal of life out of my cases. Like Doc, I probably load mine at least 15 or 20 times before any splitting starts to occur. You can extend the life of your brass by not belling it too much to start the bullet in your press. I have some old brass (probably loaded a minimum of 20 times) that I use for loading to take to matches where you can't pick up your rifle brass. No need to leave brand new brass lying on the ground.
