Hey Everybody,  was in a muzzleloading shop recently and a brand new Uberti (Taylor's) 1860 found it's way home with me.

I'd like to get new nipples for it, but not sure what kind?

I read in the Slix-Shot thread that those are too long for Uberti's.

Was gonna try Tesco's, but then I read about Stainless Steel nipples made by Track of the Wolf.

Not sure what to get.

???

Any thoughts?
God forgives, I don't........

I would first find the right size caps then I'd shoot the thing. If all works well I don't change them. I have stock nipples on most of my guns and only swap out the nipples out if there is a problem, the main problems for me are do they fit Remington #10 caps and do I get reliable ignition w/o cap jams.

Cemetery,

If you have a good relationship with your nipple supplier, an option would be to remove one nipple from your pistol and have him send you six of the desired nipples the same size as your supplied one.

That is what I have done with several pistols through The Possibles Shop (http://possibleshop.com/). A good thing to do is to call him, let him know what is coming and what you desire.

While cleaning the packing oil off of it, some of the nipples got stripped when I tried to take them out to apply grease to the threads.

Cemetary,
Do you mean the threads stripped or the shoulders of the nipple where the wrench grips them stripped?

Shoulders.

Hardly any shoulders to even mention.  Got a few off, and thought to myself I should get a new set since there wasn't much shoulder just to be safe, then stripped the next two.   :-\

I'd get Tresos to replace the stock nipples.

At the last SASS match, I shot my 1860 Armies, with eight cylinders to speed the reloading.  Some have Treso, some have Ruger and one has Slix-shot nipples.  All worked with no misfires.  Remington #10 caps.  Factory nipples are not consistant in size and shape.  I suggest Treso or Slix-shot, or try both.
