Kimber=Leader in 1911s, USFA=Best SAA.  Good comparision. Yes, I think USFA will do well if they stick with the historical edge on the 1911s, the period correct finishes etc.  I think it would be great for anyone wanting to use one in a "Wild Bunch" demo.

Wouldn't it be something if USFA decided to recreate some of the old Winchester Leveractions to go with their great Single Action Armys.  I can dream of a matched USFA leveraction and SAA set.  Oh one can dream can't he?

mrwilson

Doc, I've been having the same dream!

I recently picked up a Lightning Carbine, and this thing is so cool!  You can tell by the Quality it is a USFA firearm, but it's short action and great pointability is awesome!  USFA is simply the best.  I hope to God they don't do anything crazy and change their current corporate culture or philosophy because its current status is truly American and truly great!

(Hum, lets see if I can stir the pot ;D)  Buy RUGERS, they aren't clones, they're American made, stronger, faster, and more reliable than any other sixgun on the market AND I can buy three for what one USFA or Colt cost.  (Ok, did I stir it enough? ;D)

Well I would say you are stirring the wrong pot!  Rugers and USFA SAAs are in different leagues.  Even Ruger has realized this by bringing back their old grip style to more closely match the Colt SAA grip.  However, major differences still exist, such as the Hammer, Firing pin, Case color methods, etc...  Rugers are great guns, and they hold their own.  Rugers are well priced, modernized sixguns that fill a large part of the market, but USFA sixguns are more historically accurate in feel, looks, operation, and in beauty.

Do not get me wrong, I respect and own several Rugers myself.  They are great guns!  But when it comes to the feelings and emotions stirred in my soul about the Old West and the fantastic part Colt SAAs played in that history, USFA SAAs are the finest sixguns available today that instantly stir those emotions for me.  I cant' afford to collect several Colt 1st & 2nd generation guns at this point, but I can collect USFA SAAs, which are just as good!

With total respect and regards to Ruger, Thank God he created a single action sixgun to fill the void Colt left open by stopping SAA production.  Thank God Ruger showed how to use modern production techniques in creating old style guns.  Ruger has created their own place in firearms history and has always tried to be a leader, and has done very well.

However, Thank God USFA has combined modern production techniques with traditional hand fitting and finishing to recreate and make available what is the most stirring style handgun in American history, the old Colt SAA.  I say "Old" Colt because 3rd generation Colts just don't reach the level esteblished by 1st & 2nd generation Colts, but USFA SAAs do!

Reckon a bunch of it comes from individual definitions of 'the best'.

Nice lookin' well made things.  Who knows?  Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I like the clones over Rugers for shootin' CAS myownself.  I won't argue their value.  If  I had to bet my ass on one or the other the Ruger wins hands down.  For CAS, it's the clones.  USFA stuff are clones.  They always will be.  Hell, Colts are nothing but clones of their former selves.

As an investment.  I'd rather drop $400.00 for a plain ole Uberti.  Take a couple hours cleanin' it up and stickin' a $25.00 spring kit in it.  Invest the money saved in gold, silver or municipal bonds.  Me bein' a shooter, my stuff gets beat all to hell real quick.  I don't wanna be beatin' up an expensive revolver when I can beat up a cheap one that performs just as well after a little work I'm perfectly capable of doing.

Collections mean nothing to me.  My stock portfolio means more.  I want 'em to shoot, not to look at.  It's said 'he that dies with the most toys wins'.  What I've found is your stuff winds up in boxes when ya pass.  Someone tries to liquidate it.  That's why everything I collected during my career went to the department's museum curator before I retired.  My kids won't have to dispose of it and it won't wind up in someone's attic like my late father-in-law's stuff has.

So, when someone describes something as 'simply the best', the 'best' needs to be defined.

That is the beauty of America.  We can agree to disagree and realize that we satisfy our wants in different ways while remaining similar.  I am sure that we both honor our Amendment Rights, and whether it be USFA, Ruger, Uberti, or whatever else someone decides to shoot or collect, we have that right!  When the chips are down, all I care is that you and I are willing to stand side-by-side and defend this great nation, and I won't give a rat's you know what what you are shooting with, as long as the thing can shoot.  At the end of the day I can take my USFA home, and you can take your choice home, and our families can sleep at night in peace.  Thank God for America!

Amen to that Doc.  I spent 22 years of my life defending this great country and the Constitution of the United States.  I don't really care what anyone else shoots as long as its safe and they're havin fun.  Just had ta throw in some alternate views, this thread was sounding too much like a commercial for USFA.  Hey don't none of ya work for USFA do ya? ;D

No, I definitely don't work for USFA, but I definitely enjoy their firearms.  I also enjoy Rugers, Colts, Smith & Wessons, Kimbers, Para Ordinance, Winchesters, Marlins, Remingtons, Brownings, Sigs, and a few more.  I am a shooter/collector of personal interests, meaning I buy what the heck I like.  I have a great passion for American Arms of Quality, and try to make my purchases to support American Manufacturers of Quality whenever I can.  To set the rocord straight I own as many Rugers as I do USFAs.  However, I firmly believe they are two different styles of firearms, and I enjoy them both equally.

A couple of months ago I read "Bill Ruger and His Guns", and I was very impressed and left with a great amount of respect for Bill Ruger and his accomplishments.  I am also very pleased with Doug Donnely and his efforts to bring American Quality into American Firearms Manufacturing.  My only wish with Rugers is "PLEASE" get rid of that legal mumbo jumbo on the barrel!  I am so sick of Lawyers trying to litigate every ounce of potential stupidity for every idiot that can't or won't take responsibility for their own actions.

Bottom line, USFA and Ruger make great guns! Period!
