Thanks for the pics , we all love our pistols .

Capt. Jack McQuesten

I just picked up my Uberti 1873 a couple of days ago. I have a stainless Ruger NM Vaquero in .45 Colt with a 7-1/2" barrel and a stainless Uberti 1873 single action in .45 Colt with a 5-1/2" barrel. I think they will make nice companions to my 73' Short rifle!

Thanks for the Pictures either weapon is a EXCELLENT choice .

Well... my '73 is in caliber 38-40 so my brace of 5.5 inch Colt clones would be the companion handguns to go with it.  Now my fancy SASS Colt is also a 5.5 inch 38-40.   8)

Well, my '73 is in 44-40; so, a pair of pistols in that caliber would be a perfect match.  On the rare aoccasion I shoot cartridge pistols, my brace of 44-40 Artillery model Catlemen come out of the safe.

I guess my faves would be a pair of engraved charcoal blue 5 1/2" '51 Richards-Masons.  If I want to match calibers I shoot them with a .357 charcoal blue carbine (well, matching bore diameter anyway, as I shoot .38 in the pistols and .357 in the carbine so I can get the most gunpowder in the cartridge).  If I shoot the .45LC Trapper, I can match it with a 1st gen 7  1/2" .45 and a matching antique finish Cimarron.  Have .44 Spcl Colts to go with the .44 Spcl 1866 (oh wait, that's not a '73  :D ).  My 44-40 carbine does not have a matching set of pistolas as I only have one .44-40 Model P.  But in actuality I tend not to match calibers with the pistols and rifles, just shoot whatever I feel like that weekend, or more often, whatever I have enough ammo loaded for.  My Lee Turret is very quick and easy to change calibers but kind of slow, so I tend to load small batches.

Got a chance to go shooting today . Shot all 3 barrel lengths and love them all . But when it comes to reaching out there to tag something that old 7 1/2 is HARD to beat . The rifle has a half round barrel and is a Excellent shooter and the 427 bullets group great in it ? but the new short rifle needs .429 . So the idea of using the same bullets for both rifles won't work . Plan on trying some softer lead with a black powder load to see if the bullets will bump up .

Well, I'm now at the point that my biggest decision before I head to a match is what am I gonna shoot?  Damn guns tend to multiply in the gun safe when they are locked up and the light is off.......

Anyway, with my 24 in uberty 73 in 45 colt, my Ruger OM vaqueros in 45 colt.

with my 19 in 73 saddle gun in 44-40, a pair of SSA model p Colts in 44-40....

The second one from top is a first gen in 44-40...

Second one down is a 44-40...

I never considered myself a failure...I started out at the bottom and happen to like it here!

Currently, my favourite six gun to go with my original '73 is an original first generation Colt SAA 5 & 1/2" Artillery that has been completely restored including having it mechanically adjusted back to original factory specs. Also, the cylinder has been replaced with one chambered to 45 Schofield. Set up this way, my six gun qualifies for a legal antique here in Canada which means it does not require any registration or permits, and I can carry and shoot it anywhere a firearm can be discharged. I load the 45 Schofield ammo to give 45 Colt ballistics (250 grain bullet @850 fps). Artillery's usually have various serial numbers for their parts. The frame dates to 1882, the rest of the components date to 1873 and 1874. Here is a photo .....

Prior to this one, my favourite six gun was an original Smith and Wesson 2nd Model American factory chambered in 44 Russian, shipped from the factory in 1873. It was a magnificent revolver with a beautiful 8" barrel and in very nice condition, having spent its time in the arid climate of the American southwest. Unfortunately, because it was in completely original condition, I hated to carry it in a holster during remote wilderness trips (even though I packed it in the remote northern wilderness for a couple years), so I sold it and bought the antique Colt instead. Here is a photo of the old Smith ....

With my 73 in 44-40 I use a pair of old model Ruger Vaqueros in 44-40 and when I use my 357 73  I use either a pair of SASS Vaqueros or NM Vaqueros I have had for about 6 years. I like them all.

That second photo, the first one of the S&W, is my screen saver.  I love those American / First Model Russians.
