John,

That is commonly called a "conway" buckle....trying to find one in black may be a chore

Tandy calls them Conway buckles. Don't know if there are any other names?

Four knowledgeable, working leather guys gave you an accurate answer - it's called a 'Conway Buckle', and they're hard to locate, but they're still being made.

Not hard to locate around horse country.  Various sizes are usually available at local feed stores.  I will admit that all the ones I've seen are nickle plated.

Just check the normal suppliers. They are available in nickle plated and solid brass. I haven't seen any black ones.

I know Weaver has them in the supply catalog. They list a lot of items used on horse tack.

Zack White should have them too.

Get a brass one, clean any protective coating off then dip it in Birchwood Casey Super Blue and you'll have a nice black one.

Dja ever compare the rigging of an M7 holster with that of the Huckleberry rig used by Doc Holliday (Val Kilmer) in Tombstone? Except for the size and shape of the pouch, it's just about identical. If you have the movie and stop action on your player, check out when Doc steps out of the barber's chair and has his back to you with his "Lightning" behind his back.  ;)

Hey John, those are conway buckles.  You can get brass ones at Weavers and dip 'em in Insta Blue and turn 'em black.  I burn the lacquer off of 'em before I dip 'em in blue.  It makes a nice black color.  Doesn't last long, but gives it a nice "used" look.  Use them a lot.  This isn't common knowledge, but I figured I'd clue you in...just between me and you.

Thanks again everyone, iv'e ordered some from tandy unforchantly nickel as that is all they sell here in the uk but will take a look at Weavers and see if i can get some brass, to be honest im not going for the authentic look so nickel will be fine but its good to know i can make them black if needed.

Trailrider iv'e never seen tombstone, i know i know stone that man, but i was thinking about using the pattern for other pistols as i like the way this shoulder holster sits either under the arm or across the chest with easy adjustment so thought there was room to adapt the pouch.

all the best

john
