Compound Feed

What are the advantages to a compound feed walking foot, vs one that is just described as a walking foot?  I have a good shot at the latter, but I don't want to end up with an inferior machine.  Not quite as fabulous is OK, but not up to the task would be a disaster.

A compound feed usually has a feed dog on the bottom and is needle fed (the needle moves rearward) therefor you have two devicesfeeding the material.  A stright walking foot usually only uses the outside presser foot to feed the material.
