Put some seeds in the ground this morning; radishes, beets, cabbage, cucumbers, cantaloupe, 3 kinds of squash & 4 little tomato plants from the greenhouse

Singing Bear

Still working the ground around the house, but we have more fruit trees than veggies right now.  6 papaya trees, , 2 tangerine trees, a calamansi tree, Myers lemon, 4 dragon fruit cacti, pineapple, poha berry (I forget with they call them on the mainland), apple banana, warm weather blue berries, lemon grass, blue ginger, Japanese maple and a particular variety of hibiscus they use for Thai "okra" tea.  Sorry no pics.  We have a 9000 sq. ft. lot with a big back yard and a decent sized front yard.  Front is being resodded and the back is a work in progress.  Fruit trees/shrubs are all over the place.  :) Oh yeah, we have cherry tomatoes growing all over creation thanks to the birds.   :(

Things are sprouting pretty good, I'm guessing radishes and greens by the weekend:

I'm doing so spading and getting it evened out, I roto-tilled it in the dark.

The rows are a bit crooked, but that never bothered me, The part in the foreground had been garden up to a couple years ago, and tilled better so that end is mostly root crops:

That concrete was in the mess behind the garage, I'm cleaning it up as i have time and will get a better wall put up and get it cleaned up and I'll do my herb garden there next spring.

Mustard greens in the row to the left and radishes in the next ones.

You can also see where the kids spilled some seed.

And peas:

It's doing pretty good for most of it being grass a little over 3 weeks ago.  Some good mulching with some straw in a couple weeks will help and I have to get the fence up soon, although Rowdy has been really good about staying out.  I found only one set of Lab tracks in it since the rain Friday and Saturday.

Watch those labs once things start coming on.  My in laws have 3 labs, all great hunting dogs, apparently they like veggies with the ducks.  They have been eating the asparagus as fast as it comes in and will eat the yellow squash off the plants.   My dog (toy poodle) looks at them like they are nuts, and wants to share your chicken/beef/pork/any other furry creature I am consuming.   My wife's step father tried to teach them to sniff out morels.  Worked so far that they eat them when found.  That went over as well as them eating the asparagus.    ;D

I have a lot of potted veggies.  I have peppers and tomatoes, with some beets, leaks and peas in the ground.  Also have Rosemary, Thyme, Parsely, Savory, Marjoram, Chives, and Sage.  All but the Rosemary come back every year, just doesn't winter well.   I dry them and use them in everything, especially homemade sausage.

I've got some Roma tomato seedlings that are ready to go into the ground. The dirt is shot so I need to work some nutrients back into it. Have to get it done this weekend.

I've got radishes and cabbage up & some beets started to peek through this morning. The little tomater plants & spaghetti squash are thriving but th cantelope looks kinda sickly. No sign of any cukes yet or any of the squash I planted from seed.

Weird, my first planting of cukes is also over due.  Will replant next week if they don't come up.

No baked taters for you then. ::)  Don't know, had chives years ago, planted the seeds and had them for years.

I planted chive accidentally - they came with some strawberries I brought home several years ago.  Managed to kill off the berries, but the chives are hangi g in there.  Used o cut the buds of before they flowered but let them go last year & discovered that bumble bees love 'em.

I'm havin' greens tonight for supper.  Looks like I will mix turnip and mustard to get enough, but that's ok.  I have bacon, butter and vinegar.

Del's right, lots of manure available around here. Worked it in the soil and got the seedlings planted. Had an unusually cold and late winter this year with lots of frost.

I got a mess of greens last night, a mixture of turnip and mustard.  Enough for a nice serving for me.  I added chopped bacon and a bit of red wine vinegar.
