Boys i tell ya i`m real impressed with this rifle, fit and finish is perfect, the wood is walnut with a dark satan finish.
After messing around trimming a handfull of 45-70 cases to work i shot it a few times at 30 yards, last shot was dead center in a two inch circle.
I`ll post a better range report in a day or two.
Had to thin the rims two .62 to work in this gun, might be a guy that has some factory ammo for it, going to check on that.

Having a little trouble with loading, i`m using a 292 grain bullet, lyman mold number 457191 and crimping in top groove.
I trimmed the case to 1.81 but that makes the overall length to long.
I`m going to have to trim the cases to 1.75 to make the OAL right at 2.25.
Will shortening the case that much raise pressures too much?
The loads i shot today were 35 grains of 3031.

I shot a 2 1/2" group @ 100 yards with mine with a 300gr bullit and 34gr of 3031 with stock sights. Better sights would be amazing!
Nice gun Pitchy. ;D

Say that`s good shootin.
I may have to drop back to 34 grains, do ya know what fps is with that load.

If anyone can help i`m a little cunfused about if it hurts anything to have air space between bullet and powder using smokless.
I took some new factory loaded 35 Rem ammo and can shake them and feel the poder moving inside, have found that with other ammo in the past.
I need to know the facts before i load any more ammo for this new 45-60, i loaded some today at 35 grains of 3031 and there is aprox 1/4 in. of air space.
I shot five of them so far with no issues, i used no fillers or anything else.

Sorry, I don't keep the computer attached to my hip. ;D Yes, there will be air space with that load. There is air space in mine also, perfectly normal.

Wasn`t just talking about you pard, thank you sir.  :)
Just came in from turning 50 cases, made a jig for the lathe so i could turn the rims exact and the same on each shell.
Getting there.

Trimmed up 50 cases from 45-70`s, painted the ends to keep them separated.

I tried that load today but haven`t gave it a good test yet, shot a few at 50 yards and the recoil is mild and plesant to shoot.
Don`t know about 100 yards, not much adjustment on the sight for 100 yards and under.
Will set up a target tomorrow and see whats what.

Well not real impressed with the turn out but my eyes are so bad that it`s hard to focus on that rear sight.
The 50 yard groups are with the ladder down of coarse.
Tried three shots at 100 with the sight down and it shot way low so tried one shot with the elevator down as far as it would go and it shot way high.
So i filed a u shaped groove in the bottom of the ladder and that shot good as far as elevation.
Probably going to try a different powder as i`m out of 3031 anyway.

A little better, 55 grains of FF Goex but room for improvement. 50yards
Between the rear sight and bad eyes it will kill deer as is.

I shot some of that nasty stinky black yesterday, didn`t group worth a hill of beans.
I have eight muzzleloaders to shoot if i want to clean rifles every time i shoot, no thanks.
If that lights peoples board by all means shoot it and have fun.
Must be true there`s a sweet spot with 3031, though i have to shoot it some more to make sure those last two shots wern`t luck.  :)
