He was supposed to be discharged from the hospital today.

Not to pry into his personal situation, but was any of this service-connected. (Of course, stress or sitting too long on an airplane ride or other conveance can cause Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT). If you have to travel or sit at a desk more than 2 hours, by all means, get up and walk around. If you can't do that, flex you thigh and calf muscles every half-hour or so!

Godspeed Major Matt!

Major Matt Lewis

I came home from the hospital last Sunday and the wife has forced me to keep a low profile.  I am still not back to "normal" but I am getting stronger everyday.  Still not walking normal, and it does hurt.  I have to think about something before I do it...like "Do I really NEED to go to the bathroom or do I just want to?   ;)"  BUT and this is huge, I am getting stronger daily and my walking is getting better.  My endurance is squat.  I went from working out twice a day and going to Karate to getting whipped by just going to my daughter's concert.  But I tell you what your prayers and thoughts have helped immeasurably.  I DO look forward to seeing you all on the firing line.

On a different note, my Army career has been going pretty well (until this).  I am on the Captain's list awaiting the promotion order and have assumed command of a unit.  It's small, but it's my first command.  I hope this doesn't put me out.

Thank each and every one of you, God Bless and Happy Easter.

Hey Rich!
It's great to hear you're home and doing better! And it's good to see you here in the Barracks again too.

We'd sure like to see you at a muster again.

Major Matt, good to read that you're doing well. Take at easy, one thing at the time. I hope for you your promotion will go on.Take care of yourself. God bless you.

Major Matt Lewis

Thanks Joe.  I am getting antsy to be Captain instead of 1LT(P).  The funny and ironic thing is I had just taken my PT test a week before I went down.  It was the ugliest PT Test had...but I passed.  Based on what I understand my issue to be, I had a problem at the time and still passed the PT Test.  The good thing is there are no flags and though I am on profile, because I just passed the PT Test, there is plenty of time for me to heal and not worry about being flagged from favorable actions.

Hoohah!

MML, hope they put promotion through.  Most of the services have significant health and well being rules that would not allow a board to "officially" consider your recent issue - unless a military medical board had already ruled on your issue.  The medical boards are usually the last step in pretty lengthy personnel processes - so it would be a rare case indeed to hold things up already.

That being said, I have been a junior officer processing info for senior members on boards and have seen and heard discussions happen.

But for the most part - I can say for the USCG - that we do a good job keeping those discussions a rarity.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Pony Racer,

I was already selected and am not flagged.  So it is just a matter of the order being issued.  That is all I am waiting on.
