I'd love to buy Goex and I buy American whenever I can but if I buy a case of KIK it's like getting 2 lbs for free!!! I'm not rich and this allows me at least 2 extra shoots. I gotta save $$$ where I can to keep shooting the powder I love! Maybe Goex would lower their prices if we stopped buying it.  ?????

Some are quick to blame the producer, but my local retailer has it for $15 a pound, new production.  I think some of you are being gouged at the local level.  Goex has always worked fine for me.  It likes a little compression and a hotter primer.

Does current production still have the metal cans? Goex is about 1.50 a pound higher than KIK but the fact that it comes in a somewhat period looking metal can is worth a little something to me along with it being American made.

The hard thing for me with prices is that I am very familiar with inport/export taxes and hazmat fees etc etc... and that 1.00 0r 1.50 a can difference is actually more significant than it appears

When you consider the price you are paying for Swiss, Scheutzen, KIK, & Diamond Back - you are helping those companies pay/defray the costs and fees that GOEX does not have to deal with at all.

So actually that 1.50 difference a can, is really not a 1 can for 1 can difference...i do wonder how much cheaper the foreign brands would be if we were not covering some portion of shipping/inport/export and hazmat in the final price we pay locally

That being said - in VA the price of Goex is matching the price of Scheutzen unless you buy in bulk and save 10.00 a case or .40 cents a can...

Shoot which ever one you like - just make it Boom, Fire and Stank:)!!  Just keep that heathen smokeyless stuff for them modern guns...

It'll be interesting to see what type of cans they use when they finally ship the first batch of Hogdon owned/made powder from Goex.

Hopefully it'll be good powder, but they've got their work cut out for them to make a better powder than KIK. I'm still stinging from the decision to drop the 2 best powders Goex ever built, Cartridge and Express, and just a couple of months before the shooting season started. That left alot of us in a lurch for powder, and now that many/most have went other places, it's going  to take some super powder to bring folks back.

Quoteit's going  to take some super powder to bring folks back
Making gunpowder is an art using quality ingredients including the water for the initial mix in the mill.
Facts:
*  The 2 most knowledgeable persons that knew how to make Goex gunpowder, trained early on at the Moosic plant are no longer.
*  Several experienced plant employees were let go by Hodgdon
*  Their pre market testing of finished powder ended when that person was fired by Hodgdon
*  Quality wood such as Alder makes the best charcoal.  Goex uses Yellow Maple
*  The standard processes have shortened times.  These have been documented and can be compared to the preparation of Swiss

So, to make a 'super' sporting grade gunpowder - people, processes and quality ingredients have to be brought together.  Then when put on the market - tested by BPCR shooters that are heavy into testing and shooting at the long distances, not 100 - 300yd shooters...have to have a high performance .  If the new powder is not equal too or better than Swiss or the new KIK in the form of density-sieve ratios-fouling control -accuracy and $$.$$ ... then it's just another gunpowder which will not bring dedicated BPCR shooters back who buy & shoot cases, not cans annually

Remember, Goex Express, "the moist burning powder" was supposed to be the equal to Swiss before the new KIK was available.  This grade of powder too was discontinued with Cartridge and Cowboy by Hodgdon.  Why?  The sales volume was not there from the BPCR and CAS shooters  Cowboy folks want cheap and BPCR folks want quality because their NRA ranking and bragging rights depend on it in addition to the firearms they use

I received an e-mail from Chris Hodgdon today-10-16-12, and he stated that there would be a replacement for Goex Cartridge powder by next summer. High quality and low fouling.  Have to wait and see what transpires.   Hope it happens.

BP Grades and quality are a funny thing.

There are only 5 common grades... cannon, 1,2,3,4F

Yet, there are dozens of variations on them, each aimed at a specific target market.

When I look for 2F for my 45 or 1F for my 12 g loads, I only buy Goex.

Same for my cannons when shooting a ball in front of it.

I use Goex 2F in 26.5 and 37MM launchers as well,

I want each round to work like the last round.

When I am looking for 1F for blank charges for my cannons, I am a bit less concerned about repeatability and a bit more concerned about shots per dollar.  I am using 4 to 8 ounces per shot. The no-name "Skirmish Powder" works well for those uses.

I guess it really boils down to what works repeatedly and predictably for one's specific application, and cost is always a bit of a  factor.

::)That's what they said last year about Express, now they think maybe sometime in 2013. They keep screwing around and by and large most of us that shot their powders in large quantities in matches , will have expended our reserve supply and moved on to something else.

Actually the rumor is that Goex has a New powder to rival Swiss . This will be interesting . And so will the plastic cans .

Goex is supposed to release a match grade black powder, name is Olde Eynsford, 1 1/2 F, 1 lb plastic can, some time in 2013.  Saw this in Black Powder Cartridge News, Winter 2012, Vol. 80

For what it's worth, I've switched to Swiss and KIK.

You do realize that Goex has been giving out this propaganda for two years now?

Well the new powder should be shipping after the first of the year . Can't wait to try a can of it .

Ranch 13

Rowdy, that's what they told us a year ago ::)
I realize Hogdons is only into the sporting bp as an aftermarket for the floor sweepings of the military contract, but when Goex brought out Express there were shooters actually running and testing the stuff before it became available on the open market.
As near as I know there is NOONE that has even seen this new stuff, yet they are promising delivery after the first of the year.
Serious shooters are going to approach the stuff with a bit of timidity , as there will be noone with real experience to tell how it preforms, and there's still going to be the lack in confidence that the stuff will remain available. Some of us are still hanging on to the remains of cases of Express and Cartridge we had on hand or were able to get ahold of when they quit production, but have for 2 seasons now been shooting other powders with good results.
Hogdons has a ways to go to regain shooter faith.

Olde Eynsford is the new powder .And yes they are using plastic bottles like Swiss . This powder is to be a cleaner burning and hotter . They are predicting shipping after the first of the year .

Ranch 13

Yup and they told us a year ago it was coming , then it was after the first of the year, then in may, and now sometime in 2013...
Point being Swiss has a new powder that is not available on the open market, but there is a quantity of it that was given to shooters to try out and give feedback... Do you or anybody else know of anybody anywhere that has actually seen or shot the "new" powder from Goex?
