New here  ;D

I have done a little leatherwork (building some custom Harley solo seats, because I could never find a design that suited a certain project). Now I have a replica Remington 36 black powder 'shootin iron' as my wife calls it.

I'm starting a holster, but want to add a black powder flask to the belt, also a pouch for some balls and caps.

Anyone have any patterns or designs for these?

By the way Ned,how much to make me a flask holder for that set you already done for me?I would like to have one for that very awsome rig.. :) :) :) Is this a beeeeautiy or what! Ned made all the leather, and the knife, moose antler handle, one of my favorite posessions!!!!! I could never repay Ned for this rig,i just love it!!! And it is where i can see it every day and i look at it everyday.Thank you Ned Buckshot, sure wish you would make more stuff and post it.A feller called Doc Disaster made the sheath,it is the sign of the Comanche like in Josie Wales movie. You can see the blade through it very nicely..Sorry for so much braggin but Ned makes very nice stuff, you can't go wrong with Ned or anybody else here for that matter! :) :) :) :)

I have a ton of such patterns BUT there is a problem, they are not mine to give away.  At one time or another Tandy has produced at least several sets of these patterns in their pattern packs and books while leather magazines and books have numerous more.

Ned, that's very generous. Looking at your work for Gunclick Rick that is very impressive.

Rick, thanks for posting those pics. The knife sheath is very cool tool. Will have to add that to my list of belt items.

I want to give this a try myself as I have done just a couple of seats this way and really enjoyed it.

One of the first things I acquired when I began buckskinnin' many years ago was a homemade flask holder. The concept is simple, just a semicircular "boot" and a snap-flap around the neck of the flask.

Trouble is, I beleive I saw a very acrimonious debate about the historical correctness of the concept.  It seems that "In the day" the flask went into a coat pocket or in a shooting pouch.  The holder might have been invented by more modern muzzleloaders.  But I'll leave that alone, but will say that I've had the thing for 25 years and never used it in the field!?

P.S. I remember now, why I bought it.  It came with a nice flask!  The flask is still in use.

That a good looking one. I have some extra hide to try one like this. Maybe make a paper pattern first.

OK here we go. First photo shows the first paper pattern. What's missing?

You guessed it, the cross strap that needs to be part of the back.

Now making sure there is ample material for the belt loop, Leather cut and retested.

Now to look for a design, I think it will be best to do all the pieces at the same time right?

That Looks very nice. I put a rivet at the back and sewed it and grind down the stud screw so it dont scratch your flask.

That looks like a good plan coming together Ballncap, be sure and post some pictures when you finish it.  Some years back I altered a standard pattern to hold my flask with a heavy thong and wore it across the neck/shoulder like a possibles bag.  I looked for it a couple of years back and could not find it so might need to make another one.  Didnt a lot of the old original measures have a ring attached to the neck for attaching carry thongs/straps??

Was not sure the flask was going to fit until it was stitched and then tried. Fits nice and snug.... :D
