Is the Pedersoi tang sight, that comes with the rifle, as useless as some folks say?  Anyone actually use it for long range?

IMHO . . . yes. With enough practice, shooting and good eyes, it can be done, though. Lee Shaver has a sight that (at least a few years back) was basically a Pedersoli sight he modified for more friendly use. There are several more options available out there that do make it less of a headache. BUT they are more money, too. In general, with long range sights, you do get what you pay for.

BTW - Uberti and Pedersoli are NOT the same company(s) . . . As far as Sharps repros go, the Pedersoli is miles ahead of the Ubertis, of course, just IMHO.

Uberti Sharps are made by Pedersoli under mutual agreement.  The sights are even so marked.

The tang sight on the Uberti/Pedersolli Sharps is still pretty useless.  I never even mounted mine as I stumbled on a C Sharps long range tang w/base at a gun show.....perfect fit and a darn good sight.

Friend has/had one on a rolling block. Complete crap. He took it off and shoots tighter groups with the barrel sight.

Have to agree with comunal wisdom. If all you're interested in is hitting somewhere on the target then the Pedersoli sights are fine. If not then use them as a door wedge and get a serious set........ Shavers, MVA, Baldwin, Hoke, there's plenty to chose from to meet all pockets.
