Two Flints,
Would you happen to have any info on S/N 19618?
Thanks!

Savage Fellow,

Another original Spencer?  Didn't you have a different one back in 2010?

Spencer Carbine 19618 - looks to be a carbine issued to a member of Company G, 12th Illinois Volunteer Cavalry in early March 1864.

Hope this helps.

Thanks!
I only wish it was mine. A good friend was planning on bidding on this one at a local auction. It was reported to be from the unit that captured Jefferson Davis, but this may cast some doubt.
That being said who knows what Spencers lie ahead??
Mike

Hi,

Found this posting as I was looking for any info I could find on an M1865 Spencer carbine I found at a flea market here in Brussels, Belgium.  The serial number is 23140.  It's functional but the appearance is a bit on the low side.  The barrel is clearly marked M1865 and the serial number is also clear.  The markings on the strap are faint from wear but readable.  From what I've been piecing together today from my research, this carbine was probably not made by the Spencer company.  There are no readily visible cartouches on the stock and I haven't been able to make out any other marks on the barrel.  I suspect it made it to Europe with the batch that was sold to France by Winchester in the late 1860s.  I was surprised to find something like this over here.

I appreciate any info you can provide.

Fuels,

How about posting photos of your Spencer M1865?  If you do a search on SSS using the words Spencers in France you will get a few interesting results.  Also, this link:
