Has anyone here switched out the standard lever to a large loop lever on their Winchester '94? I just picked one up and I'm looking for info on how to do this. I do have a large loop lever for it already.

I tried posting this on the Shooters Meeting thread with no luck. So, here goes: Has anyone switched the standard lever on their Model 94 to the large loop? I just picked up a 94 and the LL lever and I'm looking for some guidance on how to install it. Thanks in advance.

Open the action till you see the screw that holds the lever on. Unscrew it and replace with the new lever. Be sure that you do not move the action after taking the screw out so you don't get anything out of place.

Don`t throw out the old lever.  You may want to re-install it!

So, I don't have to take the gun completely apart?!

Not at all - just be sure to use a well-fitted screwdriver, and a careful hand.

Great. I had prepared myself to have to disamble the gun. I don't usually throw away parts either. Thanks for the help to all.

I've done it several times, but many years ago. I also found that while they look cool, practical they ain't. Switched them all back to normal levers.

I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken.

St. George

They only look cool when they're on the short-barrelled Winchester Trappers - but that action was built for a full-length rifle cartridge and not for pistol caliber - and both 'The Rifleman' and John Wayne were carrying Model 1892's.

Its not screw, its a pin. I drifted it out and the lever is attached to the bolt. It appears I'll have to disassemble the gun after all.
Thanks anyway.

All done. The most difficult part was lining up the hammer to get the screw back in. I still think it looks cool. But, if the Duke liked it....

Thanks for  all the help.

Hi
Dont know if anyone else has had this problem but my missus had a large loop on her 38/357 94 and broke the shell lifter twice , put the original lever back on and had no more issues.
Again not sure if it was something to do with the lever or just a coincidence.

Was your wifes one of the newer japanese 94's? The one I installed the lever on is a 1973 "Made in New Haven, Conn" gun. So far, it works. I haven't shot it yet: maybe this weekend.

Sorry missed your reply, dont think it is a made in Japan gun.

I put about 25 rounds through it April 6th. No issues. So far so good!
