Well pards, Georgia just set a new record for gas prices in the Metro Atlanta area. Gas stations in Morrow, GA, just south of Atlanta, are selling regular unleaded gas for $3.50. Time to teach the sheep how to pull a cart.

What's it like where you are.

Little known fact: When a major retailer raises gas prices just one cent, they make an additional $1 million every 24 hours.

John, prices were $2.49- $2.59 yesterday. In the evening, the wife noticed $2.69. Today, running errands, she saw $2.89- $3.12, depending where in town she was.........Buck 8) ::) :-\
I might be slow, but I'm mostly accurate.....

Wrangler Rich

$2.999 here.  I'm sure the prices will hit $4.00 soon.  ( They predicted that before the Hurricane)

I'm 100 miles west of Chicago in the middle of the corn (which isn't going to be worth a hoot this year because of lack of rain)

Marauder

Talon Macleod just reported it for $6 a gallon in the Atlanta area because the word is out that we will have a shortage.  They don't have power to pump gas to this area.  Doesn't look good for a while.

The Arapaho Kid

Seattle gas prices average $2.65 to $2.85 per gallon depending on where you get it.  I have a 10 gallon tank on my VW Bug and it's costing me close to 20 bucks to fill it.  Back in 73 when I bought that car....20 bucks worth of gas would last a month!

Badlands Walker

El Paso as of 3:25 p.m. today..... $3.19 a gallon!

Jubel

This ain't no different than when the Hunt brothers created the false shortage of silver. If the FTC would get offen it's butt and do their job there ain't no reason for this to happen. Heaven knows a shortage happens over time not in just a few weeks!
Cousin we been ashooten at each other all day! How about we stop for a beer then we kin go home and get our axes. Or just as good, lets forget this whole dang feud, I'm agetten too old for this anyhow!

Update from Georgia Central. As Marauder stated some price gouging station owners have taken this opportunity to really screw the consumer. Consumers have been egged on to buy because of news reports of the possibility of a shortage. One station owner in Cobb County raised his prices to over $7 a gallon. Late this afternoon Governor Purdue signed an Energy Emergency Order, which now gives the State the ability to prosecute price gouging for energy (including gas). Most of the station owners in this area are OTA (Other than Americans), and once a few are actually arrested and prosecution begins I think there will be a fall in the gas prices.

New update from Georgia Central: There was apparently a gunfight at a local gas station in Social Circle, GA, when someone wanting gas tried to break into line. Police responded and it's believed the offender was taken into custody. Man this is getting too serious.

You want to know the bad part. There is no current shortage in gas stocks in Georgia. The media was speculating on a possible gas shortage in the future and that fueled the fears of the ever dumber public. Go figure.

Sod Buster

I just paid $2.999/gal for 93 octane at 10pm.  It went up 10 cents/gal since I drove by at 6:30pm.  I guess I should have bought it then but the lines were too long (panic setting in).  The station made everyone wait 20min while they did a shift change and counted the money.  They would not even allow credit card sales.

They claimed to be out of both 87 & 91 octane - forcing all customers to buy 93.  I wonder what tomorrow will be like.

The short answer Sod Buster is it will go as high as people are willing to pay. You can look for a lot of "drive offs", fistfights and the like in weeks to come.

Seems time for the Federal Government to step in and impose the windfall profits tax they imposed on the gas companies in the late 70"s during the gas rationing days then.

You know Exxon posted its largest quarterly profits ever just last quarter. Prettu soon they'll be having a two for one sale on SUVs.

Yeah, I sure ain't too enthusiastic about the conditions at the gas stations.  Folks manners seem to have evaporated, already, and it's likely to get worse.  Saw a lot of hand waving, grumbling, and shouting yesterday, and it's just the tip of the iceberg. :-\ :(

The worst part of this whole thing is there was no local shortage, but because people believed what they were told by others they made a rush on the local stations and some did go dry. They'll have more tomorrow morning though.

Marshal'ette Halloway

Isn't this price raise just dandy??

It is $3.05 here tonight, but rumor is it will be higher by tomorrow night.Cost me $49.00 to fill my truck up the other day when it was 2.59 a gallon. and the dang thing had a strong 1/4 tank left.
Now it's even higher! And when it is $4.00 a gallon ..they will drop it to $3.00 and we will all just be thinking we are sh**in' in tall cotton.

Right at the time when the Marshal and I are going to take off for Branson pulling that 27 foot 5th wheel through the Missouri hills.
We might have to stop off at Coffeyville on our way and rob the bank, if the Dalton boys left any money in there.  :)

Here's our home away from home.

Real nice rig there Marshal'ette. For your info, gas prices in Atlanta went as high as $4.99 a gallon for regular unleaded, cash only no credit cards accepted. See what a little rumor can do.

No, more tax ain't going to help anything, it will sure as hell discourage any small companies into new exploration, Jimmey Carter just loved that kind of thinking and we ended up with double digit inflation.

Gas shortage?  It is not an unfounded fear considering that 40% of the U.S. refineries are off line right now.   I do foresee gas shortages at least in the short term.

IMHO... we need to start up all of our own oil fields again & stop this buying from other countries!

I agree with ya kid.  It's time folks stood up to the tree huggers and did what's best for people instead what's best for snail darters and other things nobody ever heard of or care about.
