I have a Ruger new vaquero in 45 colt. I love these pistols very much but can't shoot worth a hoot just to tell it like it is.

I have the problem of shooting low and left  (i'm right handed). I read where they call it to much trigger , what ever that means.

I am  6' 4" and weigh 221 lbs. and have very large hands. No matter how I hold this or any other colt clone, and I've shot plenty of them , enough to know that it's not the pistol. Used the tip of my finger , up to first knuckle and as far in as I can , makes no difference.

One thing helps a little , and that is holding the pistol very loose and just letting it flop but that's not very accurate.

Help.

Thanks

Jack

I had a similar problem coming off of the big frames. Try wrapping your little finger under the frame. This will shift your hand down the grip and may solve the problem.  Another thing to check is that you are gripping the pistol properly and  that a straight line can be drawn from front sight to rear sight to wrist to shoulder. This will ensure you're gripping the gun squarely and not off to the side. Finally you may be aware that depending on the bullet weight the front sight may be too tall( if you're burying it all the way into the notch ) to allow the bullet to strike POA.  Hope this helps and don't be shy about bench resting the gun to see where the problem lies. .45's are expensive if you aren't rolling your own.
Best of Luck.

Thanks TDS, I give all that a try this week end. The problem is all me as all my 3 sons shoots it and all of their colt clones very well. Thankfully I do roll my own.  I hold the front sight even with the top of the rear. After I get me adjusted I'll work on the sight.

Thanks again

Too Much Trigger.....  Use more finger TIP as opposed toward the first knuckle joint....

This is MY solution on all of my firearms....  not just my Vaqueros.

I had issues with my old vs. new vaquero but have realized that I will play speed games with them and accuracy games with my Bisley. I haven't settled on a load so my sights are all stock. The Bisley loves 250's passionately and will stack them to POA all day. I believe it's 180's for the vaqueros as they are not hitting POA and it'd be economical.

From a bench test both of our Ruger Montado .45's shoot just a hair low to POA
at 21 feet when shooting lead 250's and windage right on. The jhp 200's shoot a little
lower as expected being lighter and again windage right on POA. The thing I like about
the higher sight (Mine Pure Stock) is that I acquire quicker for fast draw two hand off
a cross draw CCW holster and for quick aim point & shoot. For regular fast draw off the
hip I never use sights anyway so no matter......
