Broken front sight RM Type 2

Ok , somehow the front blade sight on my RM round barrel type 2 broke off with a piece still lodged in the cut out of the barrel.  I have ordered a new one but my problem is getting the old piece out of the cutout in the barrell.  None of the old sight is sticking up so there is nothing to grab onto.  Any suggestions how I can get the piece out that is still lodged in the cut out?

I would try hammering an awl into one of the ends.  The front sight is pretty soft (at least softer than the barrel).  Start at the joint and gently tap it in and under the sight, then pry it out.
