I know this has been covered a million times and i`ve searched the net world wide for answers but no luck. Anyhow, My Winny had at one time a leather wrap around the lever and barrel and now has a bit of speckling where it used to be. I`m tired of looking at that so i`ve decided to re-wrap it. I need a tutorial on how to do it. Any takers ?

I use very soft leather or chamois. I cut a strip as wide as the inside of the lever, rubber glue the edge to the lever and start wrapping. Use the rubber glue when I stop. Add the cool factor by using a leather thong on both ends to give them a cinched look. Those snap on wraps are cool but will not protect the back of you fingers. The rules require natural material.

Tandy has some deerskin lace. I used that and just wraped it around the lower part of the lever and pulled it in under itself. It's nice and softand easy to do.

Alot of commercially tanned deerskin and garment type leather is chrome-tanned these days which is tanned in chromiam salts. This type of leather may cause rust.
My monikor comes from my family's former ranch Santa Cruz Farms located outside Eloy, Arizona. The Santa Cruz river runs through the land.

Well i`m not too sure what the stuff that was on it was tanned with but it definatly caused rust.  Personally and in the future i`ll never add anything leather to any of my guns unless you treat either the leather or metal with something.  ::)   This little Winny is a true beauty and dang shame some idiot didn`t do this right.  >:(

I use snap-on wraps and they work fine. I use it more to fill up the extra space in the lever than to protect my hands. And I can take them off when I clean my guns, especially handy as I shoot BP and clean with soapy water.

I like to wrap mine tightly with a strap, wound and tied off at the back. Be sure to loop around behind the trigger once when you start to keep it from moving on the lever.

I put chamois on my 8) butt to keep it from sliding off. Works very well.

If anything rusts (this buttplate did not) you can do some neat things with heat. I can capture a wheat color, this color, purple, and a deep deep blue. Can do the same thing with the lever, side plates, mag tube........anything of similar size and does not have to be hardened. Doing this, the part is quenched in oil so it lends a little to hardness. Those spots are reflections. Buttplate is like new.
