Are the Pederdsoli offerings of the Remington rolling block approved for NCOWS? I see Remington rolling blocks in the approved list but no mention of Pedersoli copies. It does mention Pedersoli Sharps copies.
Just asking.

John William,

The problem with shooting a rolling block in SASS is that most of them are .45-70 or some such ... buffalo rounds which would go right through our berms .... unless one bought one that was set up for a pistol round like .45 Cal Colt ...

They're not THAT powerful....I shoot a trapdoor loaded with 45-55-405 at my local club. If they insist on pistol calibers at your range, River City John shoots a Baby Rolling Block sometimes, not sure of the caliber, either .44 or .45 I think.

Possibly so,

But I don't want to take the chance ... never want to hear that an errant bullet struck something (or worse, someone!).

Reminds me of a golf joke I heard once ...

It seems that these very dedicated duffers were teeing of right next to the highway. The second duffer slices a long one off to the right, puts another ball on the tee, and successfully hits one down the fairway.

They are both in the 19th Hole when a fireman asks them if they were the one who shot a golf ball off to the right and onto the highway.

The second golfer admits to it ... where upon the fireman says:

"Well, your ball hit a fire truck's windshield ... the fire truck crashed from the flying glass and the house they were responding to was a total loss ... burned to the ground. And what do you have to say about THAT?"

The golfer got quiet, thought for a minute, and replied; "I think next time I will  try to put my right thumb more in line with my other hand ...."

I am thinking long range side matches when offered and appropriate to use the .45-70, not as main match rifle.
Have my '66 in .44 Russian long for that job.

Hi,

I apologize for the golfing joke ... but for .45-70, I have had much more luck dealing with the BPCR people ....

Hello,

I just sent a message off to my BPCR resource person, but I am going to put the same to the SASS people.

BPCR has a max weight for rifles at 12 Lbs. I believe (at least for Sharps).

I am unsure whether that is their max for all rifles or if rolling blocks can be heavier (with my dual triggers and such, my rifle is a touch over 14#s.

Am I still competitive at SASS matches?

Well, if you weigh over 300 lbs. your feet get sore quicker, but I don't think it's limited in the NCOWS Bylaws!

:o :o

::) ::)

Sorry!  After Waddy's golf joke I had to throw that in!  (And your joke was pretty funny, too - WWE!  Glad that it was only a joke, 'tho!  I'd hate to have anything bad happen to firemen - they have it bad enough without errant golfers!!!)

I just got a reply back from my BPCR rescource guy and they have a maximum of 12.2  Lbs.

Don't know about NCOWS: The nearest NCOWS is eight hours of hard driving away ... BPCR runs the local Long Range shoots ...

I've shot at at least 5 NCOWS BPCR shoots, and while just because I shot there doesn't mean there is no ruling, but ...

I didn't see any scales at any of them.  Nor was there any discussion about gun weights that heard.

I have had good luck shooting 457 Round Balls out of a 45-70.  Use 1.9 CC FFg 2.2 CC walnut media a .062 fiber wad and a homemade wonder wad under the ball.  Shoots 2 inchs at 25 from my sharps.  Expect will do just fine from my Navy Arms Roller as well.  Just have not shot them from that gun.  Will probably shoot the sharps in Plainsman Match at WR.

no long range rifle may excede 20# acording ncows rules.jeff

Hi.

The only way I have to measure my rifle is to weigh myself on the bathroom scale, and then weigh myself and the rifle ... the difference being the weight of the rifle ....

Don't know why, but the scales says the rifle now weighs 11 lbs (or there about).

Plus I still have the slight weight of the rear open site on it ... so I could loose and ounce or so right there ...

So I guess I am competitive for both ... NRA and NCOWS ... always a nice thing to keep the options open ...

I just weighed mine and according to the bathroom scale it is around 12 pounds. I did it by itself and with me holding it. I thought it would be heavier than that cause it feels like 25 pounds.
