I have thought about trying that out  :)  and it looks fun!

I thought so too until I saw the part says they only shoot wax bullets!

They're all fast and they'd all probably kill me in a real gunfight, but it still sounds like a bunch of six year olds playing with cap guns and light bulbs.  I think it should be man vs. man in paintball attire. That's fun; you and he draw and see who's got nerve and skill.  Cleaning wax from my pistol doesn't appeal to me either.  ;D

TDS, I have you pegged as one'a them fellers that if someone gave you a million dollars,,,you'd complain that they stacked it wrong ... ;D

From my posts it'd seem that way, but truly I fight for the underdog in all things and this thread is nothing more than an offshoot of the topshot western style thread which went stale so I stirred the pot with some ideas. I have run enough matches to know that half of them wouldn't work and the loyal masses get perturbed when the status quo is upset. I have however always viewed a three gun match as a run what you brung as long as it's safe. IF the shotgun targets could take rifle rounds great shoot a rifle instead and if the man doesn't have a rifle shoot the long shot with the pistol. Put an asterisk next to his name in the results so that everybody knew he wasn't running it like the others and let live. In CAS it all seems like a wash, meaning no advantage gained except by the absence of the shotgun where the shooter gets more than two shots per reload. For a lack of a rifle he gives up the transition time between the two pistols and that should not be faster. In time I'll slow down and stop looking for the better mouse trap and I do appreciate the friendly hint.

If somebody gave me a million dollars, I'd be the quietest, fastest man you ever saw leave a room.

How do you know what it's like?? Have you ever been to a CAS or CFDA match?? ??? CFDA is a blast, yes we use wax bullets, but they are going 650fps. I would not want to try this with real bullets, you are cranking the trigger as you draw the gun, real easy to shoot yourself in the foot, I know I've done it once :o. That's why we have deflector shields on the bottom of the holster ;D. It takes a good bit of skill to draw when the light comes on and hit a 24" circle at 20' under 1/2 a second. If you were to show up at a match I could have you shooting in the low .7s the first day, that's a good time if you can hit the target more than the feller shooting in the .5s. But first you would have to show up at a match ;). As for cleaning it's really very simple. First take a hair dryer and heat up the barrel, then put a patch on a .45 brush.....pull the brush through and all the wax comes out in one pull. Then just clean and oil gun as usual. I use the same .45 GW II revolvers that I use for SASS, so no new equipment is needed. I would suggest a toe plug or tight fitting cork in the bottom of the holster ;)

Now there is a one and two gun game that is starting to take off, and looks like it could be fun and easy to set up. It's the Ruger steel challenge style, they even have a Cowboy SA category. Shoot the targets at one distance with pistol, and another distance with a pistol caliber rifle. I've been thinking of setting up one at our range. Again like all of our CAS matches, it's as much about the people as it is about the shooting. Before I become a keyboard critic I'll actually shoot a match then let you know what I think ;D Good Luck :)

To be clear, the comment about CFDA was only intended in pot stirring jest. I appreciate all shooting sports. For example, I used to be a three position rim fire shooter. Nothing is more boring than that, but I had fun and built good shooting positions for other sports. I was interested in CFDA for a time until I saw that there were no places  within a three hour drive. 3d archery took its place.
;D means I'm joking around in future posts.

I have decided the last couple weeks that I have been living in a cave.  I had never heard of the CFDA. until last week.  Now I find there are 3 clubs within 85 miles of me and the closest is only 35 miles.

Yes as Charles Isaac said, they only shoot wax ...  ;D ... and for me that made it even more appealing.  One, I only need one gun so start up is a lot less expensive.  The cost of shooting per round is a lot less expensive.  A person can practice at home with a solid back stop.  Drum roll please .... the BIG one!!!  In bad weather they shoot indoors, so I could shoot with friends a dang site more often.

Question for Jefro ... there is a shootist category, long barrel and slim jim holster with no tie downs ... what sort of times are usually turned in?

Thanks to two walks! I checked the CFDA site and a club has started nearby. I am excited to try waxing my bore or my holster. I really was worried about it from a cleaning stand point. The fiancée has a hair drier I can borrow so I'm letting it rip.

Sorry,

Couldn't resist! ;D ;D ;D

And seriously, even if it's with underpowered or wax ammunition, anything that get's people out buying, owning and firing REAL guns is good with me-makes it harder for the socialists to take them away! Just 'cause it's not for me means absolutely nothing in the scheme of things :D

Howdy Two Walks, the average shooter is gonna add anywhere from a tenth to a few thousands, the really good ones are almost as fast as with the 4.5" barrel. Just make sure to get a good holster that will allow the cylinder to turn in the holster. Any drag on the draw is what will slow you down the most. Most of us use PTFE Micro Leather Kote, just a tiny dab on the end of your finger is all you need to slick up a holster. The Quick Cal CD has some good tips on technique. Good Luck :)

Great to hear, get ahold of the MD to see if they have any house ammo or some you can borrow. We have house ammo for newcomers and visitors. You will need the special made .45 cases, wax bullets, and Rio 209 shotgun primers. Someone at the match can probably sell you some Rio primers to get you started. The bullets and cases can be found at the CFDA web site, I suggest 50-100 cases and 500-1000 bullets, the Silver Press is also a nice item to have. Rio primers are a must because they sit deep inside the case preventing any drag on the reciol shield. Trust me, Winchester, Remington...etc...etc..will cause trouble. Let us know if you like it and I'll share a great practice tip. Good Luck :)

Jefro I am gonna ring him on the coconut telegraph tomorrow midday and see what the low down is. Who knows what will happen as it's a small get together. I can be a small fish in a small pond because I am horrible at it so far. I may have to glove up and fan. Haha!

My Cowboy Fast Draw problem is ,,kinda unique I guess...I'm so fast the heat from my draw melts the wax bullet,,,and I just get a poof from the primer out the barrel and no hit.

(BHAWAHAHAhahahaha)

I'm gonna be the opposite of the Henry rifle. I'll load on Sunday and they'll wait all week for me to draw and shoot.

I bet that wax bullet will hurt like Hell when I shoot myself in the foot with it while trying to do a fast draw. Still looks like fun.

;D That's why I am going to put a toe plug in my next holster - getting low on shorts, don't want to ruin any.  Besides, it don't look Cowboy to cry in front of the Women folk.
