Ok....it appears I'm gonna have to put a new front sight on my Colt Lightning.  The blade on it is a little short and that tosses the rounds high.  I don't know whether to get just a new blade, or a whole new sight?  I gotta do one, or the other.  So the question here is.....is the someplace where I can get these things?  Either a blade, or a whole new front sight?  I would think these would be available somewhere?

Kid, do me a favor and read my topic on the Shooter's Forum on how to determine the height of a front sight to correct shooting errors high and low. It's real simple to figure out, but if you have any problems, just e-mail or PM me. I will be out until Saturday evening, but could answer you then.

It's no big deal to change the blade on your existing sight, and I can tell you how. I do it all the time on muzzle loading rifles and muskets.

The second part of this is....I was told by someone (and I think he was woofin' me!)  That if I raised my back sight up a notch, or two...that would lower my round hits on the target.  When I take a perfect sight picture with my Lightning and squeeze them off...they strike about an inch above the bull.  I really don't think raising my back sight will bring them down.......will it?

Kid,
You are right.  Raising the rear sight will NOT lower the POI, it will raise it even further.

You can't change the wind, but you can always change your sails.

That's what I kinda figured!  So.....this guy was woofin me, or he just didn't know what he was talking about!  So the bottom line here is....I gotta get a new, taller blade for the front sight, ot just replace the whole front sight.  Now...where in the cobb can you find those?

Kid, it sounds to me like the gun is no good anymore.  Might I suggest you buy a new one & just send that old thing to me!

Concho:  The gun, itself, is ok.  It shoots well.  I just got to get a new front sight on it that's a little taller so I can bring my points of impact down onto the bull.  Right now with a perfect sight picture (bull sitting on the front post) the rounds are hitting about an inch above the bull.  If I take a low 6 (Kentucky down windage) with white showing above the post...they go in the bull.
