Russ T, you were right again but in keeping with the movie characters it was LTC Thursday to Lt O'Rourke about his daughter Philadelphia seeing the soldier spread eagled and burned on the wagon wheel.

The first was John Wayne (LTC Kirby Yorke) when Ben Johnson (Trooper Tyree) runs off on his horse to flee a warrent from Texas for murder.
I think it was to Victor McLaglan (Sgt. Quincannon) but not sure without watching it again.

Rigo (JW's character) asked Dixie (the woman run out of town by the ladies of the community) to marry him, but she didn't respond. Hence the quote.
