Here's where I am right now:
I've tried Mineral oil (MO) and water.  NO
MO and press wash-well maybe, but NO
MO and Alcohol-NO
MO and DAWN-NO
MO and a cheap Best Choice Lemon All Purpose Cleaner.

6 teaspoons of the Lemon in 4 oz of Mineral oil gives a nice suspension of the oil and will make the Moose Milk at 1/7 that will stay in suspension for about an hour.  I used this and it cleaned nicely and left the oiley residue that we like from Ballistol. No rust, no wood damage, no plastic damage.

I took this basic mixture and added alcohol for no change.

Added DAWN for no change

Added Press wash and it seemed to stay in suspension a bit longer but at the expense of adding a petroleum product that might be difficult for the average bear to find.

I intend to continue this experiment and will report back on findings.  I think I will add more water to the mix and see if it stays in suspension better as DD suggests.
