Sounds like a winner! Now, I can't make any promises, but I do hope to make it out there for another shoot!

That's a very generous offer, thank you! I'm really hoping to make the trip.

I spoke With Joe Blunt from Florida this afternoon and it sounded like he's going to try to attend.

That sounds great, you know this could evolve into the best shoot in the whole CAS world if it's not already there.

What all should I plan on bringing other than a uniform and a few guns?

I have a wedge tent and other primitive camping equiptment. Not all of it is specific to this period but much of it can be recycled from other reenacting and will not be obtrusive.

Plenty of ammo & a mess kit - the commissary dept. will feed you well, but expects you to bring yer own plate.  Maybe some sulphur, I hear it will keep the chiggers off.

About how many rounds of rifle and pistol ammo should I plan to bring?

Thanks Stu, I need to remember to mention the mess kit closer to the time.

A tin pie plate and some silverware is all you need, a coffee cup is handy but I have extras on those.

Hop Along and others, I'm always open to suggestions as to what to put on the menu.  Also if someone is allergic to something please let me know, for example you will never see anything made with Blue Cheese in my camp. :o

The the commissary dept will take care of that problem, I will warn you we don't do low calorie, low fat type yuppie foods.

Plenty, but its hard to say how many that is - they won't give us a round count like a SASS shoot, because its "shoot till they all fall down" & some fellas will shoot several times at a target before it falls down.  When the time gets closer Pitspitr will let us know how many targets to expect.  Also, the targets will be smaller and farther away than in SASS.  Last year was my first time there, they kept telling me I would have to "slow down & aim" - I'm still working on that "slow down" part ;)

while we are on the subject of guns and ammo I have a question about my handgun. I am looking for a Schofield but I may not have on in time for the muster. I have a Ruger Vaquero in 45 colt but that is not on the approved handgun list. is that allowed?

Yes, but the AIM part is the important part for most people and you didn't seem to have a problem there.

Hopalong, I hadn't thought about the need for a recomended "bring" list I will work on one and post it as soon as I can get it put together. In addition the most important part at this point is bring what you got and think you might need, and we'll work with you on the rest.

The round count is bring lots and lots. This match will utilize the new skirmish format entirely and the number of rounds you use will be dependant on how many times you miss. Ned Neiderlander may be able to give you a closer estimate. It seems to me that it took on average about 2-3 shots per target. We usually have about thirty to forty total (rifle and pistol) targets per stage. There will be 3 stages in the Skirmish Course (main match)

Just for drill, what are the approximate ranges of your rifle and pistol targets.
As I understand in SASS maxes apply < 1400 fps rifle and <1000 FPS pistol
please confirm.

It occurs to me that the GAF site needs some info for new guys like me. Since I noticed the need I will try to fill the need. I will start a draft of what is needed to bring to a camping and non camping muster and I will post it here. More experienced guys like yourself can edit it and expand it. Once we have somethign useful we can post it on the GAF site for other newbies. I would like to do something similar with uniforms but that will be for a later day.
