Here is an original '73 that was my major purchase this year.

Made in 1886,  26 in. octagon barrel, blade front sight, flat top ( target ) barrel sight.   Bore an 8 on a scale of 1 - 10.  I added the Marbles tang sight.  Have shot it with the barrel sight off hand at 30 yards and shoots just great.   We will be making a new shooting range in the new year and when I get to shoot it at 100 yards will post target picture.

Beware the man with one gun, he probably knows how to use it.

I'd love to own an original '73win. The '73Win , beyond doubt, my personal fav rifle ever. Just would love to someday own a 'real' one.

When I looked and shopped around for a "cowboy" lever gun I considered carefully all the models ( ie. '92 or '73) makes ( Italian, Brazilian ) . . . etc. . . . and came to the conclusion that I was best off in the long run if I bought a model 1873 that was made by WINCHESTER.   So I bought one that turned out to be a "project gun", . . . but which turned out to be a good one to become a "Winchester Mechanic" on, . . .  and I got it shootable.  Now have a second one that is in really fine condition ( fine "shooter" condition not fine "collector" condition).   I'm real happy that I chose to buy "real" Winchesters.    :)
