So many beautiful guns, so little time....and not enough money.

Capt. John Fitzgerald

I also noticed on  the Turnbull web site that he is offering "Buntline" models with the ladder rear sight and the vent hole in the top of the frame.  I wonder if these are old, left over frames that he got from USFA?  Back in the 90's, USFA offered the same gun with a skeleton shoulder stock.  They were going to do a limited run of 150 guns - 100, with leather scabbard, and 50 with scabbard and wood presentation case.  My understanding is that USFA only made 35 or so (I have one of them, as well as "Grogan," who used to frequent this board).

Here is a link to Grogan's original post regarding these guns - it's an interesting read: http://www.cascity.com/forumhall/index.php/topic,23297.msg418877.html#msg418877

Grogan's still alive and "around" (sometimes).

It's just that it's Duck season right now, so he's not around as much as sometimes.   ;D

Grogan,
Glad to see that you are still with us!

I actually spoke to Turnbull Mfg about the Buntlines. The frames are Uberti, not USFA.

Capt. John Fitzgerald

Thanks, Charlie.  Back when USFA was issuing the "Buntlines," they were using Uberti frames as well.

I just got the one on the right with the walnut grips and "A" Engraving.  I love it.

Highlander that may be the best looking SAA I've ever seen.  Sniff.

When it comes in please send us mortals a photo.

What a beautiful SAA.

Capt. John Fitzgerald

North Bender,
Good to see you here on the board again!!!  Where are you at these days?

Hello to you Capt,

I've returned home and I'm not going back to Afghanistan.  I figured 2 1/2 years was enough.  I'll probably start working next month but right now I'm sitting up late at night stuffing Trailboss into large casings and getting my pistols to the range as often as I can.

Another fun thing I do is moderate on the Gunboards Makarov forum.  I posted some photos of my time in Regional Command East on that forum if anyone's interested:

Glad to hear that you're back and in one piece, NB.  Thanks for the link to those photos.  Very interesting.

Sorry, I've been lax on this.  I'll try and get a photo or two and post them :)

Very nice. All it needs now is to have that hammer case-hardened. Just one cowboy's opinion. Enjoy.

Highlander999

Yes Sir Old Doc, the hammer is case hardened, it just got washed out in the photo.  I'll try and take one showing the depth and color of the case hardening one of these days.  It is really awesome color..

I shoulda known you wouldn't settle for one of them polished hammers. Good man !

Highlander999

No Sir, I wanted one that was as pretty as the frame :)  Pulling the color out in a photo was hard though.  I was trying more to get the engraving detail a bit.  But this still doesn't do Turnbull's Case Hardening color justice, but you can see better,
