President Lincoln and the Spencer

August 1863 President Lincoln test fired a Spencer firing at 40 yards 7 shots and hitting the board that was used as a target, grouped fairly well. I was able to take this picture although not a great picture since the board is behind glass.

Some real treasures in that museum including Santa Anna's wooden leg captured in the Mexican War if I remember correctly.

Pity Sam Houston didn't use it to beat the generalissimo to death with it. In addition to offering the defenders of the Alamo "no quarter", he was a real nuisance, resulting in the Mexican War. (Of course you could argue that we got a lot of territory out of the MW.) Santa Ana finally wound up penniless in New York City, where I think he died!  :o
