I sold my Spencer in 44 and tried to order one in 56-50 from Taylors yesterday. None are in stock.

Shenandoah,

Don't feel bad.  I've been having trouble getting a few replacement screws for my 56-50 :-X  Keep in mind that Armi Sport will be shipping new model Spencers. See this link:

Have you tried some of the online dealers like S&S Firearms, Dixie, and some of the Civil War Sutlers?

I have an account with Taylors and get good pricing. They have excellent customer service.

This was going to be my Christmas present...sigh.

I have seen several references to reproduction Italian made guns being in short supply of late.Anybody else seeing this?Reason?

Dakota Widowmaker

My first guess is that it has something to do with the Italian economy and the problems with the Euro.

It would be nice if the Euro came down a bit and made purchases easier on this side of the pond.

Also, I had heard that the area where most of the guns are manufactured is having issues. (social unrest and such... but, tough to know who to believe)

Two Flints

Hello Shenandoah,

I rceived the following Email from Armi Sports/Chiappa Arms this morning.

Dear Two Flints/Fred,

During 2011, we had a huge amount of unexpected work which delayed deliveries of most of our guns.

We have just shipped over 80 Spencers to our facility in Dayton which will be then distributed to all our customers. The Spencers will be available again within a month.

The screws are in Dayton, I'm sure about it, please check again with our personnel.
Thanks.

Have a Merry Christmas !

HeyTwo Flints - this is good news!

Who do I need to place my order with to get some a set of replacement screws - does their Dayton facility take orders directly or should we go through Taylor's?

Thanks!

Two Flints

Pvt Greg,

What screws do you need?

I'd like at least the two screws that go into the upper block percussion plate - they're marked # 60
730.442  percussion plate screw.  Actually I'd like about 10 of them.

I'd also like a few action pivot screws.  I almost lost mine after I had to remove the block to clear a blank out during a firing demo Saturday.

Thanks

Two Flints

Hello SSS,

This is the complete Spencer Parts Catalog:

Pvt Greg,

Call Dayton 1-937-835-5000 and select Option 1 (Sales)  Speak to Phil H.  He has 3 of the Percussion Plate Screws in stock.  I also ordered a few for SSS members.  The pivot screw you mentioned is #13.

That's good news. The female with whom I spoke said they have a package coming in this week. She didn't know what was on the list. Even if it doesn't get under the tree, I still want to have it to work on.

The brass is also back ordered until Jan 6. :-[

PvtGreg

Well I called and scored what I wanted.  Nice folks there in Dayton.  Thanks a bunch Two Flints!

Shenandaoh - you may want to try converting Lebel or 32 ga. brass.  Starline has been promising 56-50 brass for a good bit now.

Two Flints

Hello SSS,

I ordered the Percussion Plate Screws and also the lever screws using the Spencer Part Diagram and Chart from the link posted above.

If you look at the Spencer parts diagram I have attached, at # 13 -  I ordered 5 of the Lever Screws (#13 on the diagram).  What I actually received was 5 small washers, on the Invoice these are called Lever Screw, Spencer with a part # of 730.221.  This part # 730.221 reads to the left from the # 13 on the Spencer chart.

So something is wrong.  The parts as numbered in the Spencer parts diagram do not correspond with the part # in the Spencer part chart and what was sent me. Or at least this particular part, but maybe there are others numbered incorrectly.  Or maybe it's just my eyes playing tricks on me ;)

I spoke with Taylors and Cimarron today. None in stock.

Taylors now said they won't have any until Feb.  :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

Edited to ADD: No Spencers until Feb. Still,  :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

Shenandoah

Taylors still is waiting for their new inventory. But Cimarron has Spencers in stock. Mine is in transit from Texas as I type.

Good news. I have a Spencer carbine in transit, 500 rounds of brass, 1k cast bullets, plenty of primers, dies and a collet for my hand primer in transit (one needing modifications).

With luck, I'll be shootinfg it next weekend.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

And many thanks for the answers to my questions.
