I've deleted several threads from this forum today because there was so much name calling and so many violations that the time that would be needed to clean the thread up would be extensive.  On that note I think that it may be time for some to read the Forum User Agreement again.

If moderators and administrators have to spend any of their volunteered time dealing with personal disagreements, we will consider a banning of all parties involved.

COMMERCIAL POSTINGS
Cas City is a community and a website that is provided as a resource of information and promotion of our sport. Cas City Vendors (advertisers) support and contribute financially to make this site available to you. The same goes for the contribution from owners of the site and moderators who spend a lot of their free time to maintain the forum.
This support would not last long if we allowed others to post commercial messages, thus undermining the paid advertising of those that make this site available. Our advertising rates are very moderate and there are no reason to try to take advantage of our forum by trying to post outside the scopes of the guidelines below.

If you sell products or services, part time or full time, the following rules apply, except directly to site advertisers and sponsors:

Do not initiate posts or discussion on or refer to your business.
Do not discuss product pricing or availability of products.
It is acceptable to use your company's web site address as the Home Page URL in your profile. You may also have a link to your web site in your signature, but no banners or graphics are allowed.
Advertising or soliciting for any activity that may be construe as commercial is not allowed.
Any vested interest in a company, product, or service must be disclosed. If you receive products or services for free or at a discounted rate, you must publicly disclose this when you post regarding those products or services and/or competitors. Any type of vested interest that could cause for a biased opinion must be disclosed.

Posts outside the scope of these rules may be edited or deleted without warning. Continued disregard for these rules may result in removal from the forum. If you have any questions about commercial postings, contact Marshal H.

Actions that will be taken when in violation of forum rules are as follows:

1. Warning...
This is where a non public announcement (PM) is made to a member advising him or her to follow the forum rules and reestablish a conduct and communication that is representative for our community.
When a warning is considered, it will also be determined whether the member knew what he was doing was wrong or whether a warning is necessary to explain it do him. After this is considered, we may skip ahead to the next step on the action list.

2. Temporary muting ....
This is where the member will not  be able to post on the forum or send PMs for a certain period of time. Call it a cooling off period and a time to read the rules, rethink their actions and get themselves back on track. The member may still log on and read posts. If this action has been taken, the member will see a notification on the forum when logged in.

4. Banning....
If it is obvious that the person will never respect the rules, a permanent ban is necessary.

Well, that's enough of pistolwhippin' warnings. Our intention is solely that your stay here on this forum is fun and rewarding.

Based upon the threads that I deleted today this portion needs to be called out and special attention paid to it.

Camille, thanks for helping to run a clean "town."  I don't know what you deleted, and I'm sure I don't need to.  But as a moderator for another forum, I know it's tough to make choices which balance freedom of speech and appropriateness of behavior.  There are many times a valid but unusual or controversial opinion's worth is lost because someone failed to appreciate the importance of how to say something well.

I just wanted to say thanks for doing a hard job.  I'm sure you did it well, and hope the affected parties are not too offended.

It boils down to this - you're entitled to your opinion. It just can't be expressed on CasCity.

For those of us who served, it's a familiar message. We just have a hard time accommodating ourselves to it in civilian life.

I do agree that there are some who can't engage in meaningful dialogue without (a) flaming the other or (b) lack the word power to adequately refute the other's position. That results in the default position of personal attacks, saying things one would NOT say to a man's face.

Safer to confine one's self to inanity, safe but mundane topics.

PJ, I always appreciate your opinions and knowledge.  I disagree on only one point.  I personally think that often inflammatory posts aren't made of inflammatory ideas or positions.  They're made of inflammatory language.  Often dissenting opinions can be shared within the framework of CAS City, and it would be a loss not to hear them.  But when dissenting opinions get shared by means of inflammatory language, that's consistently when thing spiral out of control, and that's when a moderator is forced to earn his or her keep, and enter the saloon shooting.

Simply not expressing a dissenting opinion is always an option, and it would preserve the peace.  But I personally doubt CAS City would be enriched by that peace.  It would be much better if some would learn to share their opinions without casting dispersions or belittling those who don't agree.  In the old days, some towns insisted you leave your guns at the sherrif's office.  CAS City could do the same, and insist we check our tongues and fingers at the moderator's office, and go through town unarmed.  But I bet CAS City would become a ghost town if the Founding Fathers insisted on that.  It would be much better to learn to express one's opinion as it is, and then stop without adding commentary or dispersions.

Clearly, I am on a soap box, and someone better stop me before I lather myself in public.  I deeply value diversity and dissent.  I don't value inflammatory remarks.  That's the essence of my comment.  Better practice what I preach and stop here.

I hear you, but I know that some have ceased to subscribe as they felt that some were given free rein to rant whereas they were shut down for responding in kind. They didn't feel the hammer was being fairly applied.

I am on other gun forums where the gloves are off. A spade is called a spade and so long as the language is non-inflammatory. NO topic is censored as gun owners are facing unprecedented attack and too much is at stake to pretend that it isn't happening.

That isn't entirely true as I have been censored twice on one of those forums for drawing a comparison between the tactics of the RCMP of late and the Gestapo. My comments thought to be "hurtful" to any LEO's that might be subscribers! They didn't disagree with me in principle.

Subsequently, some of those very LEO's have shown their true colours when speaking out in favour of the militarization of police forces over the last decade. So who's zooming who?

Avoiding the unpleasant truth is not doing us any favours.

"when a moderator is forced to earn his or her keep".

What?  Do you mean to tell me that Cammie gets paid to do this?  NO, she's having way too much fun.  She should be paying us.   ;D

That said, I expect to be off the site until she cools down.  Might be a long spell.    ::)
