FWIW - if you haven't seen the Cowboys and Aliens film, do yourself a favor and buy it for Christmas. Not only does it have all the right guns for the 1870 timeframe (Colt conversions, a beautiful S&W 3, others), the only gun used to really kill the aliens is a Spencer carbine - which is featured from the very beginning of the movie. And, watch the scene were the "Doc" is learning to shoot - he is using the Spencer, fires, half-cocks, cambers a round, full cocks and fires. Somebody really cared about how that scene was shot (no pun intended there!) I just kept smiling throughout the movie saying "Yep, that's how it is done!" Serioulsy, a fun film, great action and a Spencer showcase. Don't get much better.......

The guns and gear in the movie were great, but I kind of wish the Aliens had won in this movie.

The story line reminded me of the California gold rush. Where outsiders with a feeling of superiority, came rushing in for quick wealth and showed no respect for the indigenous peoples & environment. A very different ending here in California.   JW

I actually got the Blu Ray, DVD and digital copies in the package last week. I really didn't enjoy it and glad my wife surprised me with it. She saw it while out Christmas shopping the day after it hit the selves. They also had the straight DVD but she went for the one she got me.

Sorry SSS members,

I didn't like the movie at all.  Too many dark scenes and all you could see were shadows and hear conversations going on in the dark for at leat 40 minutes of the story.  I kept adjusting my DVD player and at one point thinking something was wrong with it :P  Then I thought maybe I had received a bad copy of Cowboys and Aliens :-\

And these old weak eyes, as hard as I looked, I did not see a real good image of a Spencer ::)  Maybe I ought to watch it again.  Maybe ::)

I viewed better action shots involving the Spencer in the movie, UTU.  See the link here: http://www.cascity.com/forumhall/index.php/topic,17279.0.html  and also scroll down to the excellent summary by SSS member minerotago  ;D ;D

I saw it this weekend. I liked it for the entertainment value - lots of action. And it semed the Spencer was the one sho, one kill weapon (other than the lance).

Deadeye, you wanted the aliens to win?????

I agree with you on the movie Cowboys and Aliens which is why I made the comment above.  I actually purchased UTU when you first mentioned it here  a few years back.  Good movie with great Spencer shots in it.  People who get the movie need to be sure they can play it on their DVD as it is in a differect format than most of our USA formats.  I found it played fine on my computer but not my DVD player.

My Bluray copy had no such issues. I did find it entertaining myself. Seems the western genre lives on in alien movies, and animated film as well (Rango).
