Well it was 20 degrees and snow and snow flurries most of the day, but I did manage to get 40 rounds down range at the 300 yd gong from the deck between flurries.
Did'nt really use a proper rest, but that gong was ringing on more shots than not. Paper patched or greasers, it didn't seem to mind what you fed it, so I'm confident it's going to be an easy keeper. It's shooting good enough as is I wouldn't back down from a good ol gong match. I'm really looking forward to load work when these cases get fire formed.
Fired case is on the right.

Marshal Deadwood

I like the configuration on your Rough Rider. Beautiful Shiloh that one. My #3 has the steel shotgun butt...the military one ,,well the military butt.....and I do like to shoot the shotgun butt more as it distributes the recoil better and the comb is higher. But, since I just hunt with them and shoot for myself (non competitor here) either will do. I never string long runs of shots together or the military rifle might get to being a tad uncomfortable.

You got extra finish on your rifle ? Looks to be about like my #3 with the extra finish.

I know this might not be the wisest of choices,,but ya know them itches ya jest have to scratch ?,,,,I want a military carbine in 50-70 for hunting.

Gotta love a Shiloh though,,one of the two best gun companies in America,,,the other being USFA. I'd say the quality is about even between them........of course they are totally different products.

Oh,,btw Ranch,,my 5 year old grandson just came by and saw the photo of your rifle,,,,,,he approves big time !

Marshal, I ordered this rifle bone stock basic, except for the checker steel butt plate.
I think they may have upgraded their stock and metal finishing a tad. I've heard of a couple other "basic" rifles with the better finish than what used to be standard.
I like my #3 with the military butt, makes a great hunting rifle. I'm almost thinking the ultimate allround may just be a roughrider with the military butt.
Sounds like your grandson has been brought up with the proper taste in firearms.

Little bit of banging away with the 44 today. Using a decent rest and with my spotters help I'm solidly on to the 300 yd gong and shooting 3 maybe 2 moa. Which considering the loads and unformed cases I think is pretty decent.

Thanks guys. I think by the time this thing gets 200 or so rounds thru it it's going to be settled in real well, and be something really special.

Wow, a real difference between the Factory Case and the fired case.  Almost puts one in mind of an ackley improved cartridge?

;D Yeh when I got that first case out of the chamber AI is the first thing that popped into my head  :D

A friend of mine with a rifle chambered with a reamer made from an original rifles chamber cast, sent me one of his fired cases and it looks much the same as my fired case, and his fired case chambers just fine. So other than maybe the lead angle in the throat Shilohs chamber is right on the original chamber

Yessiree that's the way it's supposed to be done. :) You did what the rifle was meant to do.
I had hoped to hunt with my rifle, but it did not arrive in time, but that's alright because now I have a year to work up loads for it. ;D
