The US Army boght 58 rimfires right after the Civil War.  Te ones used in the war were the ones that used the reloadable steel case that use a percusion cap, minnie ball and 60 gr powder.  Same as you loaded the 61/63 Springfield with.  These were private purchase by some units.  A real pain.  Both the 58's used the drum which was part of the trouble.

They US Army did not buy any of the 45-70's till I belive around 77-78 after they decided the Army needed better weapons.

The 30-40's came in after 1892 and were not scrapped till about 1915, both the 45-70 and the 30-40 used a two column stick magazine.  The are the two demoed on Mail Call on the history channel.

They were made on order for any cartride of the time if you wanted, some worked better than the others.  The 44-40 was a little short thing called the bulldog.  The ad for it often showed a sketch of on mounted on the front of a camel saddle, complete with camel underneith.   Nope not me, I ain't gonna get up there and crank it unless it all goes into the back of that creatures head. ;D

I have seen and original steel case one fire.  When it wasn't jamed it was awsome, when it was I could have picked off the crew one by one with a muzzle loader, no problem.

Miss Annie, as I am unerringly bad with money decisions my suggestion is perhaps not the "right" one to heed... I suggest to get the gun!  ;D ;D ;D

...oh and I like the tiger stripe!

Tigerstripe shootin' irons, gold lame holsters, a pink feathered gun belt.

Look closely and you'll be able to see a mind being boggled.

So, Miz Lee when is your b/d and does that make you a Libra?

I are one, (a Libra.) Sept 27. My ex wife would read the discriptions in the magazine, then would roll it up and wack me with it. I can't help it if it was discribing me to a "T"

For my birthday I want to go smaller. Only want an EMF Stallien 38. Birds head grip and 3.5" barrel. They have been outta stock. I even have my leather guy in Kentucky waiting for the goahead to make a cool crossdraw high ride holster for it...

anyways hope you get what you want and waant what you get...

Maybe it is a September thing, Curley, for I'm not a Libra, I'm a Virgo! (September 12)

Shame on me, I am not familiar with .50 BMG rifles, though one might possibly interest me. Need to spend more time with my 270 first, though.

But keep this up and I'll go to Jo-Ann fabric for gold lame tigerstripe material for a circle skirt!

(I'd do it, too.)

The last time I played with 50's the range on the other side of the hill was complaining about incomeing, and they were 2 1/2 miles stright line distance.  I do go a fur piece.   ::)

Don't feel so bad. A rifle in .50 BMG isn't really fun. What is fun is having a Ma Deuce in .50 BMG.  ;D

Old Top

Thumbs,

You are very correct, more fun then you know what to do with.
