I am kind of looking for a scratch compass, and was wondering if any of the pards had one they didn't need and would be willing to part with.
This is the "groover on wing dividers" type thing. I think it would be useful on some of the projects I have been working on.

Here is a link to what I am lookig for.

Drayton Calhoun

I just lucked upon a set at an antique store, they were rusty and verrrrry old. Collectors can now cringe, I bead blasted and polished them and they work great. They are also smaller than the garden variety that you can get at Harbor Freight, Tandy and the like. I have two sets of the regular which I cannot find anywhere!

Drayton, I have two of the old style CS Osborne scratch compasses.  One used replaceable tips while the other appears very similar to the one on the right in Daltons add, except the cutting edge is a forged V shape in the #3 size.  The replaceable tip was missing from the first one when I got it so I just fitted one of the Tandy tips to work in it but have left what patina it had alone.  The second one still has plenty of edge left to wor with but I decided to just not use it as when the metal is gone it is gone and this one has much more stain on it.  My favorite deviders are an old pair of six inch CS Osbornes that are still tight as a drum and actually hold their position very well.  Dalton, if you will check J Watts site you can see one that uses the small replaceable cutter tips and that is my favorite.   Ill try to post some pictures.

Dalton,

If you decide to get one of the wing divider stitch groovers ...I think the one I bought...the Jeremiah Watt version has replaceable blades with different size stitch grooves.. is the way to go.....whereas the one offered by Osborne only has a blade that is part of the frame of the divider....

That sounds like a good way to go Outrider, I like tools that you can replace cutters or blades, thanks for the heads up pard

Ah, but those are not groovers, just wing dividers. Good stuff to have though.

Those are pretty nice Bob!
Not a bad price considering the price of new ones!

I need to add that my wife and parents got me a Horseshoe Brand tool for Christmas. It is very nice, and I can see the appeal in the changeable blade.

Thanks for the help!
