I jumped on 11 of the over 200 books in the category and got free shipping.  Not sure why they have one book on the US Infantry and a 4 volume set on horse soldiers (only 3 orf 4 available).

Got several $4.00 books and $28 for a two volume set uniforms arms and equipment vs $30 for each of the volumes separately.

That two volume set is a real bargain, regularly it's $90 from OU Press and $120 from dealers.I ordered one too. ;D

The Horse Soldiers 3 volumes are Great reference books, I have only seen vol 4 on-line in hardback and it's pricy.  The 2 volume set of Uniforms, Arms, and Equipment - The U.S. Army on the Western Frontier 1880-1892 is also a must have.  Those are fantastic prices.  If you don't have them, get them.

I'll second Randy Steffen ....the Drawings & Plates alone are worth the price of admission

I bought my 4 Vol. hard bound copies maybe 30 years ago  :-\  I paid (if I recall) $ 90 for the set
I have only seen the complete hardbound set for sale once since then....

I also have United States Military Saddles, 1812-1943, I bought it when Randy was still alive.

He was great western artist
when planets align...do the deal !

Hopalong,

You will love the McChristian Books!  They should answer ALL the questions you will have.  I can not suggest them enough to anyone interested in the US Army from 1865-1891!

As for the Horse Soldier, I have the set and use them frequently, but I have to warn of NUMEROUS errors in them.  Some of that research is now more than 45 years old.  So be warned that it is not definitive any more (with Vol. IV being compiled and edited from his notes AFTER his death).

I'd like to add that there are indeed several EXCELLENT works and some of them for dirt cheap prices!  I may have a second Xmas on my hands.

Those 2 McChristian books are considered to be "The Bible" for serious reenactors.

I have to agree.  The fist volume and then the two part one are about all you really need for information of the uniforms and equipments of the Infantry and Cavalry (I've talked to Doug and he admits that there is alot of stuff pertaining to Artillery accoutrements to still be researched).

But a pair of books that normally sell for $95 on sale for $28.95!!!  Jeeze! (be careful, the sell the individual volumes for $30 each, make sure you are ordering the set).

There are dozens of books on there.  You can't beat the Horse Soldier for $7 a volume!  King's "Campaign with Cook" for $3.99 or Lowe's Five Years a Dragoon are all amazing books!

Also if you are a Second Dragoon-ophile like me, you have to get "From Everglades to Canyon"...its the Holy Bible and only $3.99!!!

...and yes, I just dropped $200 tonight.

I feel positively spartan, having only dropped slightly more than $100.
