I know its best not to store knives in their sheaths but im outta room. Any tricks to keep them from rusting in the sheaths? Thanks

Just my opinion of course, but the best product that I have ever used for this is Break Free CLP. It contains teflon and has been tested against other protectants with great results. I would give them a good coating and soaking for a while. This stuff does not hurt my leather either. Of course a good mosture eater in the cabinet doesn't hurt either.//

Good luck  :D

Microcrystalline Wax is very good - but storing them out of their sheaths is better, so find a way to store the sheaths separately.

St. George gave good advice about storage. I store my knives separately from the sheaths,,and I just use a bit of lube on the blades occasionally and it seems to keep them in really good shape from staining and no rust ever.

To keep track of which sheath goes with which knife, loosely wrap waxpaper around the sheath then use a bit of string to tie the knife and sheath together. Not an option for display but it should work for storage or transport.

Cheap solutions:

1. wipe the blade down with mineral oil
2. wipe the blade down with chapstick (yes, this actually works)

Oh the many uses for Chapstick. In a pinch it makes excellent mustache wax, and I've heard of someone using it to lube over ball in cap'n'ball pistols. ;)

Reckon mutton tallow and beeswax lube with a little lanolin thrown in for good measure would lube balls, protect a blade and soften lips?

Well I have been storing my knives (all kinds mind you) wiped down with bearing grease and leather is wrapped in cotton, soaked in  "neatsfoot oil". This has worked for me for several decades, never use WD-40.
