Rant about stores

I did my research.

I ordered guns from Buffalo Arms in July.  They took my $$ and now it's almost November and no guns.  I ordered a pair of revolvers.  When someone orders 1 they release the one in my order and then I'm back to 0 again.  Still waiting for 2 to come in.  They say they are still in Italy and have no way to tell where they are.  I know where my $$ went to.  Companies should not take the $$ from your account until the package ships.

I carefully found clothes I wanted from River Junction.  Had to pay extra for alterations I wanted.  No pockets and certain sizes.  Paid in August.  Just got my clothes this week.  Pockets and wrong size.  Alterations are wrong and they won't take them back.  So now I'm out over $150 for clothes I can't even wear.  All I wanted was nice clothes made of cotton and made in America.  I could have sewn them myself for as long as it took and I'm still out clothes.

It's always frustrating doing any custom shopping unless you are eyeball to eyeball. I have had a shirt on order from a vendor for 7 months now. This is a guy who I bought from at the very beginning of his business when you could call him on a Monday, place an order and he'd fall all over himself to have it to you the following Monday......heavy sigh....

I know you have money tied up in guns at the present, but here is a gent I have purchased from who sells a lot on GunsAmerica who usually has pairs or pistols for sale..

I've purchased guns from this same guy via Gunbroker.com as well.  Many have.  He is a good vendor to deal with.

You might try 3B Shooting Supply at Kaufman, Texas for your pistols.  He posts on here as Oklahoma Tom, he deals in Cimarron mostly and is a very upstanding business person.

I ordered a pair of Model P old model 44 wcf in 4 3/4.  It was a good price.  Hopefully if I can get my $$ back and recoup some from the clothes I can find a better dealer.

The dealer mentioned (Phillip Rezac a.k.a. Ultona) is outstanding. I've bought two long guns from him and he bends over backward to find what you need. He ships quickly if items are in stock. There was a particular variation of Rossi 92 I wanted (older edition) and he contacted several dealers he knew until he found what I wanted at a reasonable price. I ended up buying something he had in stock becasue the price was so attractive. His prices are very competitive. Just google Ultona firearms, etc.

Be advised that gun shipments from Italy are slow these days...don't know why but a gunsmith acquaintance who is an FFL through whom I ordered an italian Colt SAA clone (special order, etc. ) said that shipping dates of Oct 30 ( on an order made over one month ago) are optimistic at best. It might have something to do with the slow overall economy or recent nervouseness about Greece's economic woes...can't say for sure.

Good luck.

In part..because  Italy takes the whole month of August OFF ...really

Not just the Firearm Manufacture's,  then there's Proof House and they take their time off as well....

Even Farrari is idle .... I don't really know why !  just tradition I guess ...

Then remember they come in Container ships,  then US customs...well you see the point !

For custom clothing contact Jean at James Country Mercantile.  She makes most of Dr Bob's clothes and she has made several items for me and I was pleased with the result and the service.

Ill second 3B Shooting Supply.  Bryan is a fellow shooter and an honest dealer.

With the guns I wouldn't have minded if Buffalo Arms hadn't taken the money out of my account the minute they got my check.  I figure you should not have my $$ and I have no order.  Don't cash the check until you ship.  If you have no idea when the guns will be here then keep the check in the safe.

They emailed again and said they have no idea.  I emailed and said I want all my money back ASAP.     >:(

I'm going to check out 3B Shooting Supply & Phillip Rezac.

Of course I emailed River Junction last week and still have heard nothing.  I just give up on that one.  Lesson learned and they will be up on Ebay to recoop some $$.

Thanks.

The gunbroker listing has a trigger job on it.  I thought with NCOWs we couldn't have any work done to it?

Tascosa Joe

You can slick up the insides, as long as the modifications do not effect the outward appearance.   Short stroke kits are not allowed to either pistol or rifle.

Let me ask a somewhat stupid question here: :-\

Why are there none to not many stainless steel revolvers in 44-40?   ???

I'm sticking with 44-40.  My rifle is in 44-40 and I want to eventually use black powder.

That being said almost all the revolvers I can find that are stainless are 45 LC.  Are they just not popular in 44-40 so no one makes them or what?

Cherokee Reb

IMHO, a stainless gun is no easier to clean than any other. I shot flinters since 1976 and never had a stainless gun in the bunch. I have had a couple stainless revolvers pass through my hands the last couple years that I have shot BP in and really see no difference in cleanup time. If you clean and care for most guns, they will probably outlast most of us.

Shooting NCOWS, I just naturally steer toward the traditional finish guns anyhow. My main match rifle and sixguns are blued,CCH 44-40s ( SAA clone and '73 Winchester) , my shotgun is an old T.Barker and my long range gun , an old Rolling Block in .42 Spanish, all stoked with BP rounds.

If you want stainless, keep looking though. They are few, but out there. Now nickel with ivory grips, that's a different story 8) 8)

Maybe that's what I mean nickel & ivory grips?

I think it's a girl thing- I wanted a pretty gun, but not if it's hard to clean and not 44-40 (what is it the 1 true caliber?).  Then I'm back to blued 44-40.

Tascosa Joe

Nickle 44-40's are out there you just have to keep looking.  I love nickle pistols.  Right now one of my main shooters is a Colt niclkle 4 3/4 .45.   The problem with Nickle 44-40's you may have to order them, and then be back in the waiting game with Italy.  Good luck in your search.

Nickel finish is usually a special order deal. I have a 7 1/2 in. barrel Cattleman in .45 on order from Taylor's...still waiting after two months, as it's coming from Italy. At Taylor's, nickel finish costs about a hundred dollars more than the standard finish, and I imagine that's typical for most models of various manufacturers. I like the nickel finish look, and it's historically accurate. To my eyes, stainless steel doesn't look the same as nickel, at least in samples I've observed.
