My brother got on the ancestry kick recently and located where our origins started. Along the way, he discovered our great-grandfather had been born in 1841. It hooked me then and I did a little research and found out that he joined the 3rd Ga. Sharpshooters in 1862 and served with them until captured at Front Royal in 1864 at which time he was imprisoned at Elmira until the end of the war. He was one of the lucky ones, he survived it. Now, an intesting point was a lot of the baisc information was gotten through Ancestry.com. Pretty good except for a major goof. They said I had an uncle born in 1874. Hmmmmm, that would have made my grandmother in her high 120's when she passed in 1980! Take anything you learn with a grain of salt.
