Hallelujah!  The new issue Big Lube®LLC MAV DUTCHMAN molds are back in stock now!!  It's been like pulling teeth, but these new molds are GREAT!  The crimp grove has been deepened to 15 thousandths and is no longer wiped out by resizing.  They weigh 200 grains now, as advertised.

Also, the Springfield Slim creations are in stock now.  There's a 38Slim, 44Slim and a 45Slim.  These are truncated cone Big Lube®LLC bullets with plenty of lube capacity.  They are designed to give reduced recoil in SASS guns with both black powder and smokeless powders.  They have a generous crimp grove for secure crimping.  The 38Slim weighs 111 grains, the 44Slim weighs 164 grains and the 45Slim weighs 170 grains.  Here are the molds for casting great reduced recoil truncated cone bullets for great SASS action.

Sounds like they will be worth a look!

Update: I had a look, your description of the Mav Dutchman says it is a Lee mould. Is that still the case or are they made by someone else? The last few moulds I bought off you looked better finished than Lees.

DD remind me again where I can get these from you.  I have one set of moulds already but could always use another.    ;D

Howdy Fourfingers,

You do truly have sharp eyes.  I'll go and change that now.  The new issue Mav Dutchman molds are now entirely the products of Big Lube®LLC.  The handles no longer come off easily.  The handle parts are laser cut steel, not sintered cast.  Numerous improvements are incorporated into the BL designs.  And yes, standard six cavity handles will still fit.

Howdy Reverend,

Big Lube®LLC products are available thru my web site. . .  http://www.biglube.com.  There's also contact information there for phone orders as well as a downloadable PDF format order blank for those that prefer to mail in their orders.

Thanks for asking.

I meant to say, the link box/advertisment box with you in the bowler hat/ signature thingo is not coming up. It is just blank with a little red cross. Click on it and it works, so its not all bad news.

The new series moulds are a mighty handsome mould though. Almost makes me want to sell off my early purchases on Evil Bay or somesuch and but some of those new shiny objects!

Dick,

What is the OAL of the .38 Slim loaded into a .38 Spl case?

thanks,

Mike

Mako

Mike,
I believe they are 1.430 to 1.435 inches.  Depending upon your case length and how hard you crimp.

Mako: unless you have bought a new mould from DD from this last batch that may not be true. The dimensions of BL bullets can change from batch to batch and especially from manufacturer to manufacturer. Going by the computer drawing my 44Slim and 45Slim have lost the SWC type bearing surface in front of the crimp groove and are now a true truncated cone. Be nice to have pics of real bullets and maybe some dimensions on the pics.

Mako

Slim,
That's sad.  I can take care of that situation.  There something not right about a man not having a proper drawing of his namesake.

Mako: I have proper drawings of my versions, just not DD's versions. DD tends to use a little "artistic license" when he makes my bullets. Sometimes it is an improvement, sometimes not, we don't always agree. Big Lubes are always evolving. There have been 4 versions of the J/P 200 and 3 of the 38 Slim. Going by the looks of some other peoples pics the MAV Dutchman bullet I cast from the original moulds I bought from the Dutchman himself is not the same as the current version, the newer version having a larger lube groove. Same for the 38-40, I had 2 moulds from 2 diferent batches and the weight difference was almost 20 grains. Makes it difficult if you like to cast with 2 moulds at the same time like I like to do. So when I buy moulds from DD I try to get 2, that way I know they will be the same.

Today, at a monthly match, I shot my 44 Magnum guns with the 44 Slim bullets.  They all shot to the POA.  No, I didn't shoot a clean match, but I had several clean stages, some "P"s  and a couple of aw s#*t shoulda had my front sight on the target rounds.  But, here's the up side.  The bullets cycled very well in my little Browning 92.  There was a nice lube star on the muzzle at the end of the match.  The guns cleaned up very easily with a spritz of moosemilk and a tug of the boresnake.  Accuracy and function held true and the guns could have easily gone another five stages and then some.  I hit all the rifle bonus targets.

So, In my opinion, the 44 Slim bullets are a very welcome addition to the stable of Big Lube®LLC bullets.  Today, their lower recoil was welcome since my hands and wrists were aching with arthritis.  My Mav Dutchman bullets weigh in at 200 grains and the 44 Slims weigh 164 grains.

Howdy Chris,

Yes, they are coming.  I had one prototype .457" RB mold and it was great.  Then, my machinist went belly up.  So, we're bringing out a new line of six cavity RB molds now.  I don't have a firm delivery date, but I do expect prototype production within the month.

I know, it's like pulling teeth without whiskey, but they WILL be produced.
