Thanks for posting your pictures . We all love our 73's and we love hunting with them . And as we have all seen a 44wcf is a effect Deer cartridge .  I want to thank John Kort for all of his hard work and help with the 44wcf .

The Ground hog hunting has been successful . I have taken  two pigs with it so far . The 44wcf has worked Great .

I've killed several deer with a muzzleloader that I've built from parts, not a kit. It's a very satisfying achievement. I wish I was still hunting. It would be neat to use a 73 or 76 to harvest a deer. I love the photos. Congratulations guys.

Who's been working up a load for their favorite 73 caliber . I have an Excellent load with olde E and I also have a good load with Unique .

  I just ordered a pound of Swiss 3f and a pound of d Eynsford 2f for my 38-40's and 44-40's. I have loads for the 3f but am hoping the 2f will work to reduce velocities for CAS shooting.

They are both Great powders . I have loads loaded with both . Plan on using the old E for Deer Hunting .

  Been watching this scrub buck for a few weeks waiting on the weather to cool down so he could hang before butchering.

 

I keep the rifle loaded and THOUGHT the magazine was full of BP loads, but for some reason I had filled it with smokeless handloads. Oh well, it's the thought that counts, right?

Well...it's not an 1860 and it's not an 1873, so I split the difference!

  That particular load is 9.5 gr. oF Unique. It and the BP load of 2.2cc of Swiss 3Fg are ballistic twins giving practically identical velocities.

Good harvest. I've got a rifle just like that myself in 44wcf. Mine has never seen anything but black powder.

  Thanks. BP in this rifle has shot very well. I'm still at a loss as to why I had it.loaded with smokeless unless it was at a point when I was out of Swiss 3Fg. Anyhow....I'll remedy that soon.

I wish I had a great story for the stock. All I know is that it was $60 on GunBroker. The rifle came to me with a bandsawn piece of oak for a stock when I was 11. we'd moved off the family "patch" into town and I missed my gramps fierce. So he gave me this old relic for a toy and to connect me and him while I lived in town. That was in 1979. This last year I started piecing stuff off of eBay and GunBroker, put the  old bastard back into service. Here's a couple more pictures.

Looks like we are all getting ready . I can't wait to fry up some fresh tenderloin . I am out of Jerky , but if I can get my sights on a Doe in a couple weeks I will fix that . Just hope the temp don't get mega HOT .
