The weather is getting warmer , and luckily it's warm and not smoking hot . Hope for a little dryer weather we have had lots of rain . I plan on working with different loads for my 73 . I have a smokeless load , a BP sub load , and a  old  E load . My plan for Deer season is to hunt with the old E load .

I have posted a picture of a group fired from 50 yards using triple 7 and a Hornady xtp bullet .

I have a load of Old E and the Chey cast bullets waiting to be tested . The old E has Great velocities and is fairly clean . Like to use it on ground hogs ,they love the young soy beans . And the Farmers don't like that at all .

We need your favorite Vintage Hunting pictures . You and your favorite hunting weapon ( 1873 ) and your favorite hunting duds .

Your Vintage Hunting pictures are a chance for everyone to show off there weapons and clothing . I thought this would be something for the summer to entertain us till hunting season .

I found a picture of a Doe I killed in 2005 . The Yellow boy was in 45 colt . That was the gun I shot almost every weekend at Cowboy shoots . So I decided hey let's hunt with it .

Have you got your load ready for Hunting season ? Deer season will be here before you know it . So far this summer I have worked on a few loads . I retried a H4227 load only to remember I didn't care for the unburned powder . The old E is a excellent powder for black powder ammo .

I'm pretty much a handgun hunter these days (4 3/4" Uberti .44 Special) but I'm thinking seriously about carrying my '86 production 1873 Winchester to the stand with me this year. The load would probably be 2.2cc of Swiss 3F under a 192 gr. RNFP from an RCBS 40-180 mould. MV is right around 1300 fps. Should work fine.

I have a few soft lead bullets coming that I want to try with old E powder . Soft lead bullet and a good load of black powder looking for that Special Vintage Hunting load . I have started planning my 2016 hunting season and have a week on vacation to use in Deer season .

Plan on shooting after work . I can't wait to try my new loads . I am wanting to see if the soft lead bullets bump up to fit my rifles bore ? Deer ( rifle ) season is only a few weeks away , I can't wait .

Finally got a chance to try the soft lead bullets with the Old E powder . Things look real good so far . I only have 49 of these bullets so I am wanting to save at least 20 for rifle season . Deer season will be here in about 2 weeks . Hope the weather cools down today the temp is supposed to be about 80 , wonder what Mother Nature has up her sleeve ?

I think I am. I normally hunt with a Uberti SA .44 Special but am thinking  this year I'll carry my 130 year old 1873 Winchester 38-40 to the stand. 1.9cc of Swiss 3Fg under a 193 gr. cast FP shound work fine, I'd think.

So.....my family is going wild pig hunting in SW Texas this spring.
They'll carry AR-15s with special pig scopes. Haha!
I'm considering opting for my Marlin Cowboy in 44-40.
Got a solid scope sighted for 100yds.
Very accurate thanks to John 44wcf.
I have 240 gr standard and hollow point blackpowder rounds.

What do y'all think? Happy New Year.
