Watched a video on how to skin a rattler . Looks pretty easy . I  was hoping after I win the Lotto we could go on that big Hunt . And if we start down in Texas I would need to know how to clean a rattler . I figured we would get tired of Mt. Lion and rice .
Do you have a good recipe for rattler .

Any rattler I ever skinned, smelled so bad that there was no way I would ever eat one!  :-\

Don't know about rattlers but Coyotes are smelly critters . Years ago I killed a coyote with a pistol ( Ruger Vaquero in 45 colt ) I was real proud of that kill . I was working third shift at the time so I stuck it in a trash bag then threw it in the Bronco on my way to work . The next morning after work I opened the door to my Bronco What a stink . I drove as fast as I could to deliver that stinky thing .

Rowdy,
I hear ya. The few coyotes I've skinned were okay smelling, but I'm sure if they were left in an enclosed place overnight they would be kinda smelly. Hope the stink didn't last too long in your Bronco.
I was planning to cook the snakes I skinned, but backed out of it after I smelled them. They say (whoever they is) that snakes can be very tasty. I would hope the smell would leave them upon cooking, I just couldn't bring myself to try.

Well the smell lasted a few days . But that was several years ago . I loved that old Bronco , but it loved gas . That's why it's gone .

I stalked these roe deers with the 44-40 1873 on my shoulder to 20 meters (cartridge loaded with 35 gr 3fg swiss + a 240 grain Lyman bullet). They were so peaceful I chose not to shoot. But I had my camera with me:

It is snowing here as well. We have about 15 cm since the mornig. I made an artificial blood trail in the morning for my dog to practice, and when I took her out in the afternoon to do the practice, the trail was already covered with 10 cm of snow. It was beautiful to see how she was digging out the blood drops weith her nose. Made me feel bad I left my 1873 at home. :)

Have you got a chance to do any shooting lately ? I've been dreaming about going to Texas and killing a Mt. Lion with my 73 in 44wcf .

Recently was at a Gun shop looking at a 1873 carbine . The carbine was in 45 colt which would be great to pair up with my pistol . Now what can I trade for it ? I hate tough decisions .

Rowdy,
About 2 weeks ago when it warmed up into the low 40's for a day or so, I took some black powder handloads to the range for testing.   Bullets were 427098 and 43-215C and made from pure lead, 99/1 and 50/1 alloys.  I was trying to find out what the accuracy would be in my original '73's oversized bore (.435" average) with standard sized bullets (.427 & .429).  All shot pretty well at 25 yards.  ;D

On the next decent day, i will test at 50 and 100 yards to see if the accuracy still holds well......

I do wish I could have been around for that kind of hunting.

I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken.

Thanks for posting the Picture . Imagine what it would be like to have the large woods of the 1800's . Our woods in Kentucky are shrinking , it seems the farmers are at war with trees . The small woods we used to hunt are now just  cropland .

Who's planning on using there 1873 Rifle to Turkey Hunt with ? In Kentucky it's illegal to Turkey hunt with a rifle . So I will have to break out the ole Double barrel .

I have lost a picture of a Vintage Turkey Hunter . I found a picture of a Hunter with a couple Turkeys across his back and he had a 73 in his hand . The picture was in the NWTF magazine . The picture was from the 1890 ( my guess ) but was a neat old picture .
If I could find was wanting to post the picture here .
