Was able to shoot the samples of the Vintage Hunting Ammo . Was working with the Swiss 3f powder using 33.5 grains and 34.0 grains . The bullets were a.429 diameter , shooting was done out to 90 yards . The 33.5 gave the best results today . The Vintage ammo is back on with Powder Inc.

Rifle season is a week and a half away . Plan on using my 73 to harvest a Doe or 2 . I have all my plans worked out . Today I'm fixing Jerky and can't wait to sample a piece or 2 .

Well the Jerky turned out Excellent . The ammo is ready for this coming Saturday .  You just can't beat Swiss powder . A 1873 and Vintage 44wcf ammo , this will be a great hunt . Good luck and be safe , and don't forget to take pictures .

Plan on departing in about an hour . Can't wait to arrive at our hunting cabin . I like sitting around the fire at night , having a nip of Whiskey, and talking about the next days hunt . Wish everyone a safe and successful Deer season . Happy Hunting

KirkD

Yep, the evenings are always very enjoyable at the end of the day in the bush. I'm starting my hunt in just over a week.

Life's funny , I am Hunting for does and all I see is Buck's . Wish I had a pocket full of Buck tags .  ;D ;D ;D

Good luck on your hunt , hope you can keep those toes and fingers warm . The weather has cooled down so will be headed out tonight or in the morning ? Have been thinking about where the Does are ?The plan is to take a nice 90 pound doe , excellent meat between the Buck and a Doe that should hold me the year . Now this Spring I would like a Hog and a couple Turkeys but that's another season .

No doe yet . Saw several Bucks and a few Does , but it just didn't work out for a shot . Times a ticking away .

Rowdy, that's about par for the course. Bucks around in doe season and does around in buck season.  :P
Good luck on getting you doe.

This weekend will wrap up modern Rifle season . Plan on Hunting Tomorrow , hope to take a Doe with my 73 in 44wcf . HOPEFULLY the weather change will get them to moving . Time will tell .

Well Modern rifle season is over , and I didn't get a Doe with my 1873 . My next big project is to take a coyote with my 73 . I got one last year with my 1873 , but didn't take a picture . That was STUPID but I do carry the camera on all Hunts now .

Pony Express
I decided if I'm Vintage Hunting I will leave the Electric caller at home . I have Plenty of wooden mouth calls wanting to be used .

Rifle season for Deer is over . So will try my hand at Coyote Hunting after Muzzle loader season . I have 2 73 rifles both are 44wcf ,but I recently installed a scope on the short rifle . Wonder what the chances of taking a coyote with a 73 at 300 yards ???

KirkD

You might need a couple ranging shots at 300 yards. I've shot my 73 at 200 yards and you could certainly nail a Coyote at that range.

Howdy Rowdy. Have you test fired that short rifle with the scope yet. If so how did it do. What scope and mount did you use ?Dusty.

Rowdy Fulcher

Dusty
The scope is a 3 power . I got it from Powder Inc. After Muzzle Loader season I plan on working with it . I have shot it about 20 rounds ,but they were smokeless . Wanted to see how the scope worked before I used  my BP ammo . The short rifle with the 17 inch scope is pretty awesome looking .

dusty texian

Sounds cool. Like to see a pic. of it.

Been thinking about getting me a short rifle in a Henry ,1866 uberti or 1873 uberti cant decide . Would make a great Jeep gun for off season at the ranch.Dusty.

Rowdy Fulcher

Dusty
A short rifle or carbine , both a great Jeep guns . I had a yellow boy carbine in 45 colt . Why did I trade it off ?

Coyotes and Bobcats are in season . Hope to get  a Coyote .

Yesterday I did a little Coyote hunting ,no coyotes . But on the way up to the cabin we saw afield with a 100+ Turkeys . What really aggravated me was they were close to the road  and where was my camera , at home .
