Sorry you had to work . Hope things work out for next year .I was able to take a nice 8 pt. will post pictures in a few days . I will also post the picture of my first Vintage Hunting Deer it was a nice 11 point , he has a nice drop tine on his left side . Life is funny I started out using a Remington 700 scoped out in 30-06 and now I am back to a 73 Winchester in 44wcf  using  BP .

Did you hunt with the Olde E black powder  ? So you think it works as well as Swiss . What does a pound go for now days . There has been several good reports about this powder . I shot some ammo that was supposed to be loaded with olde E but I don't know what happened . The grouping and the fouling were bad . I hope the olde e works .

Rowdy, started out modern season shooting long range areas with modern scoped rifle. Been trying to get to the woods with my 66 for the last week but work, weather, and my neck problems have kept me from it. I'm hoping to get my four wheeler going so I can get in the last few days end of the week. My neck and back just arent going to let me get back in the woods and drag out a deer without help.

I also wound up concentrating in an area where I saw a really nice buck that was hoping would show again but the shots in those bottoms have me stretching out to around 400 yards at times so wasn't wanting to see him at a long distance again with nothing to reach out and get him.

I have shot the Old E in a few loads, it seems real clean but haven't gotten to do any extensive testing compared to swiss. I will say for the price the Old E will probably be going in most if not all of my black powder loads unless something changes. It seems to be the best "bang for the buck" so to speak. Pun intended 

Still got late muzzleloader season in which Old E will probably be going in my muzzle loader.

Today I finally shot a doe . We cooked the tenderloin tonight . And it was excellent .

Well now I'm all kinds of excited to take my Uberti 73 out on opening day. It's a beauty with a 30 inch barrel . I have replaced it with a 66 for when I get back into cowboy shooting. That is to say when I get weekends off again . All my guns are in 45LC cause I like it and I am set up to load it. My deer stand locations are in the deep woods and have never offered up more than a 50yd shot. It's the most beautiful spot next to a Cyprus swamp. So this year It will be the 73. Maybe next year I'll try the 1860 Henry which is in 44-40. I don't yet load for that round.
I have not been hunting yet this year. I had some abdominal surgery 4 weeks ago but I believe I should be good to go by next saturday. I will have ny 21 yr old son down the swamp if I need help. I had a Hernia for the last 3 years that I finally had the funds to get it taken care of. Lets hear it for doctors who give cash discounts.

Good to hear. My regret this year is that I did not use black powder and a pure lead bullet. I would have if I could have gotten my hands on some Swiss. I do have Goex, however, so if I can't get any Swiss, I'll have to consider using Goex.

Goex's has a NEW black powder on the market , it's old Ensyford . There are reports that it works almost as good as the Swiss .

It was nice to hear you had success Rowdy.   I was skunked this season and rifle hunting for whitetail is over.  Still have archery season till Dec 31st.

Lots of nice venison there Rowdy, Congrates. I wish we could hunt with rifles here in IL, I'd sure be out there with my old 94's, 92, or 86. But for now I got this lil 10 pointer with my Remington 1100 sunday morning.

Na, no jerky. Too expencive to have made, dont have time or equipment to do it myself. All burger and brats, besides the chops n tenderloins.

I have my Deer meat ground for Jerky ,and I have a jerky gun that I use . It looks like a caulking gun and making jerky is real easy . I make my own jerky because it's to expensive to have made .
