I'll be presenting four knives for inspection at the upcoming Knifemakers Guild show in order to hopefully be excepted as a full fledged voting member. In order to be excepted you have to have four members sign an application and then you have to have knives inspected and judged at the upcoming annual show in order to be excepted as a probationary member. You then have to do two years shows as a probationary member before you can be judged as a voting member. Tomorrow is the big day. This is one of the knives I'll be presenting for judging.

The pattern of this knife was made from an original of William F. Cody and was and may still be in the Cody museum. My good friend and mentor Gil Hibben got this pattern back in the 60's from someone that was wanting a copy made but don't remember the whole story. Anyway Gil decided to make another last year and I loved the knife and he allowed me to make one from the pattern.

Rather than doing a direct copy I made mine from Alabama Damascus steel, the handle is Black Ebony, the guard and other fittings I made from solid brass stock and antiqued. The blade is 12 inches long and the overall length of the knife is around 17 inches. It took half of a cow to make the sheath :D

Very impressive, Cliff.  I can sort of imagine being able to make the sheath.  The knife, no way, at least not me.  Great job and good luck!

Cliff:

Have to admit, I've never really been a knife guy. So while it looks great, my opinion probably isn't worth much since I know so little about them.

HOWEVER.

A simply beautiful sheath. One of the nicest pieces of leathercraft I've seen on the board in a long time. From the design to the execution to the color, simply outstanding work and workmanship. It should do you very proud at the show.
