I had a friend who needed a Ruger Bearcat holster. Seeing as I didnt have a Bearcat, he said to make it fit an 1849 Colt.
He picked it up yesterday, and other than needed formed for the ejector housing, the fit was perfect.

The belt is my old buffalo belt just for the photo.
Here are some pics.

VERY good work.   Looks good enough for the cover of Packing Iron!

I went the other way.  Several years ago I made a holster for a Bearcat.  When I found an 1862 Police, 4 1/2"bbl, I stuck it in the bearcat holster like they were meant to be together.

Awesome job Dalton, on the carving and design, other than the toe plug it is dang near a dead ringer for a Meanea.

Thank you for all the nice comments. I think it is the nicest carving I have done to date. It was hard to give up this holster, but it went to a good home.

Cliff, I wanted to add a toe plug, but was worried about length on the Bearcat. I know now that it will work fine.

The leather is W&C Chestnut I believe. I put 1 coat of EVOO and Skidmores, nothing else. I have some saddle bags in this same color I am working on. I hope they turn out that pretty.

Dalton  that is a nice holster. The carving came out looking great.
A man, a horse, and a dog never get weary of each other's company.

I can see it hard to let that one go, the carving is exceptional. If you did it once you can do it again, just make yourself one ;D

If your like me you wind up selling ones you make for yourself at some point when someone wants it thinking well I guess I can make myself another one.

Dalton, that is absolutely beautiful and I will have to go beyond my usual two thumbs up and add in two big toes up also!!! :o  Several years back I made a small rig for one of my brothers grand-ones and the pattern was in one of the cheap Tandy pattern packs and shown as being for a cap gun but fit the Bear Cat pretty well and the '49 pretty good also.

I would really love a bit of background information on the gun also.  I have a pair of the little Uberti '49s but the barls are slightly longer.  Yours looks to be similar in length to the ones I always drool over in PACKING IRON.  At any rate, I do need new holsters for my pair and you have me itching to try a pair similar to yours BUT in the Slim Jim style.  No way I could ever equal your carving  ability though!

Freedom

Wow!, Very nice carving!.. Clean and deep. Thanks for the look!
