Possible New Story Posting

Queasy Dillo

Good evening, forum-dwellers.

I've been working on a new story lately.  Not Norris--not even a western, really.  This one's more along the lines of Sgt. Drydock's excellent 'Anachronism'.  It follows our protagonist (an air force pilot) through a small tropical war.  While not cowboy by definition, it does have its fair share of homages to the old westerns.

Now...it does have some coarse language and its fair share of violence.

All that said, would anybody here be interesting in reading?  I've already shared pieces with Forty Rod, who could probably give you a more honest assessment.

Any feedback (go / no-go) appreciated.

I would rather not have coarse language posted in this forum since it is a family oriented forum. Thanks.

I love the smell of Black Powder in the morning!

I can respect that.  I figured I'd put up this thread first, just to test the waters.  Better safe than sorry and all that.

I shall return when I have a more suitable tale.   ;D

Dillo: It's a good story.  The language isn't too far out of line if you'd calm some of it down a bit.  When in doubt, bounce it off of Slim first, but I think you'll be okay.

Folks: Be aware this isn't a 'cowboy' story in the strictest sense...more of a modern day cowboy sort of thing.

I'd vote to let the kid put the first couple of chapters up and then see where it goes from there.  He's a darn good story teller.  He's also real open to criticism honestly given and suggestions kindly offered.

You can bounce (email) a couple chapters off me if ya like.

Thanks, Slim.  I'll see about cleaning up a few parts.

Dillo,

I am looking forward to reading it.

I was just thinking (owww....) and had another idea.  Slim, would it be possible to post a link to this one--which is already posted on another site--and have readers leave the comments here?  An arrangement like that might allow any readers (both of them ;D) to get the story in it's original form while allowing CASCity to remain a family-friendly kind of place.

I don't know if that would be acceptable, but I figured it was worth a shot.

I would have no problem with that, pard.

Excellent.  I'll begin making the arrangements.

Thanks, Slim.   ;D

Now, I'm smarter than either one of you, not to mention prettier.

Why didn't I think of that?

Go, 'Dillo.  Go.

It came to me in a flash of brilliance....

(i.e., I accidentally touched off a small flash-fire while lighting the stove) ;D

I have some modifications to make and should have the link up shortly.  I suspect there may be a few hitches, but nothing nothing too terrible.  I'm keeping my claws crossed .

Here's the link.  With any luck we won't have trouble.  If we do, it'll probably come in the form of a notice that you may need to register with the particular site.  If so, fear not - signing up will not result in a tidal wave of spam.  It's just a writing site (where I moderate, no less  :o) and is largely harmless despite my presence.

Should you decide to sign up, I've been pushing for a cowboy/western forum there.  The site admin has told me this would be acceptable provided we have enough interest.  So feel free to drop me a PM, and I'll relay those to him.  Because we can never have too many cowboy literary forums, right?

Thanks for your time and interest.  Now, on to the story.

To the kinda-sorta modern-day cowboy tale:

Is it "Rabbit Ears"?

Nope.  Rabbit Ears was a project I had going a while back.  I haven't touched it in months, and it's really more noir than cowboy.

At the moment, the one I'm advertising should be titled 'Beginner's Luck'.

Doesn't look like there's much interest.  Could be technical diffiiculties, could be my hideous writing habits (;D)....I guess we'll never know.

Anybody who's still interested, send me a pm with your email and I'll be happy to send one direct.

I was trying to get to it without registering, but I guess you can't do it that way.

I think they did that for copyright purposes.  It was easier to post links to the old site...but anything posted there would be considered published and probably avoided by possible publishers.  It's a little less convenient for the new site, but it severly cuts the chances of plagiarism, and any work there isn't technically published (since it's not open to the general internet-roaming public).

<<enter shameless self-promotion>>

The second offer still stands, though.    ;D
